We heard it all week: Monmouth beat power 5 team x, y, z, etc. It's gotten so bad Rutgers will be big dogs to Monmouth. Eddie needs to go. This is horrible. Yada yada yada.

Well you know what? People forget the other team is trying to win too. Execution can't always be perfect. The game flows up and down. Improvement/success is not always linear.

And at the end of the game, a true freshman point guard found the best 3 point shooter on the team wide open in the corner down 2.

When it comes down to it. Big players make big plays in big games. Kids need to make plays. One did. One didn't. It happens.

He's not a true frosh and he's missed two late attempts like that now. I don't like taking the three there, although it was an open shot.

How can u not like a wide open 3 to take the lead? The team gave one of its best efforts of the year but they are talent deficient and sometimes players have to make plays, u fortunately MIKE did not hit the shot..

Also missed the FREE THROW to take THE LEAD ending the huge run at the 2:00 mark. We take the lead, perhaps the lead turns completely. Always happens in sports.

Unfortunately, not quite getting over the hump in a game always happens at Rutgers.

I did not see most of the game, but I did see that play. We got a good, clean look from one of our best shooters. Can't complain about that shot. It's just too bad it didn't go in.

What decent opposing coach wouldn't like to have Williams chuck up a three at the end of the game? The kid is 27% for the year. Only Goode is worse at 23%. Both kids have had plenty of open looks against (in theory) weak opponents and the evidence is pretty clear that their shooting is over-rated.

This^^^^ Said it during the game, need to take the lead at that point, get over the hump and then see how the opponent responds.

Also I would not call taking a wide open three chucking it up.

Mike is my favorite player on the team, plays hard all the time, but I said when the ball left his hand it was off, seemed like he didn't release it right, maybe rushing it or lack of confidence. But he is here to be a shooter, he has to take the shot...period.

That's 2 deciding shots he's missed now - the other one was the end of the Wake game I think - Can see the tightness, he needs to hit a big shot or 2 to get his head right

I love the way Mike plays but I don't think he has the confidence yet in end games. Yesterday he rattled in the first foul shot to tie the game with about 2 minutes left. I didn't think it would fall but it did. The second free throw which would have given us the lead he just plain missed. The game might have been different if he made it. The wide open three he had to make but didn't. He is a shooter but is missing way too many threes. I think he is at like 28% after starting the season at 40% (10 of 25). Last year I think he made 23%. Supposedly he makes a much higher percentage in practice as does Justin Goode. Shooters must be able to make the shots when the lights go on too. The Wake Forest game Mike seemed to panic at the end and threw up his shot awkwardly. I firmly believe this is a confidence thing. Hopefully over the next 2 years he improves on this. Yesterday Mike hit his first 2 threes but he got his second foul 8 minutes into the game and sat the next 12 minutes of the first half. I felt Eddie should have tried to put him back in for a few minutes of those last 12 and told Mike, just don't foul. He never had the rhythm the rest of the game. He finished 2-8 on threes. I think he sat too long.

Somebody has to take the shot. An open three by Williams late missed. A contested three by Cory late missed. Not a lot more options.

I like the fact the Mike is willing to take the shot and it appears that Eddie diagrams plays to get him the shot. Mike just has to get that confidence in himself at this point. Like RutgHoops said, someone has to take the shot, and be willing to take the shot.

+1. I wish everyone played as hard as Mike.

Actually, I think it's the other way around. Mike has to get his head right and then he will hit those big shots. I hope EJ is bringing in a professional sport psychologist to help our players develop their mental game. Mike looks much more confident this season, but he could be deadly if he gained more confidence in his shot.

anyone else wonder why Grier didn't see any minutes in the 2nd half after a pretty strong effort in the 1st?

I just can't imagine that Grier misses all those 3 that Williams missed..a lot of them being good looks too. Wasn't that why he was brought here?

He is wide wide wide open there

A solid three pont shooter shooter hits the wide open ones better than 50% of the time

You have to take that shot. Period
The issue isn't taking the three point shot but rather the absence of players that can make shots under pressure.Going down memory lane Rutgers rarely had more than 2 scorers on the court and perhaps only one with 3 point range.

yeah there is...finding a way to get the ball going towards the basket for an easier 2 and potential foul. Maybe you make the shot, maybe you make the shot in get the foul, maybe you're at the line taking two?

The last time I saw Rutgers take the ball to the basket end game for the win-tie was our man Eli Carter against Notre Dame about 4 years ago (and he got fouled but not called).

Williams 3 was a no brainier. You take that ever time.

Corey's chuck after that was unwarranted.

He saw minutes in 2nd half and was a big part in MU run.

Mike Williams is our solution, not the problem.

like to see his shot chart. I see him make them from the elbow but don't recall seeing him make a lot from the side. (and I could be wrong)

This team missed a lot of easy buckets yesterday. Monmouth played well, but we lost the game. I truly believe that this teams has the makings, and you can see how this core group will grow together and become more efficient in this offense. You cannot blame this on game plan, only execution.
