Shellacked by Nova today 81-55 to fall to 14-17, their 2nd straight losing season...first time since 1973. Only 3 NCAA tourney wins in 10 years!

its history vs frustrated fans

Four former players, each of whom requested anonymity, told ESPN.com, in a story published this week, that the presence of Thompson Jr. had scared former players out of giving their opinions, especially if they believe the program needs change. “Everyone knows a change needs to be made,” one former player told ESPN. “But no one will dare stand up and say it.”

I agree...going to be extremely difficult to remove because of so many alums and donors that worship the Thompson name and what it has done.....RU going through the same thing with CVS but dealing moreso with bad press if they can her rather than any donors that we would offend. Both cases everyone knows what has to happen to move on but yet both schools will let it linger and punt the football down the road

It's a different sport but cvs has been more successful than JT III. It's hard for Georgetown to cut ties with him since he has taken them to a final four. Best case is to get everyone on board and then find JT a nice landing place like Villanova did with lappas.
I think he would be great in an Ivy League type setting like amaker.

I think the Thompson name rather than his final 4 appearance is the main stumbling block

Of course . Esherick had a lot do with georgetown's success in the 80s and 90s and he was fired after having better seasons than JT III.
Old man Thompson still has some pull at Georgetown . They won't fire his son until he's on board .

Esherick was a bad coach...even Bannon's teams were beating him

Bad? Couldn't be that bad helping recruit and coach those Georgetown teams in the 80s.
As a HC he made the sweet 16. We would name a court after a guy if he did that. If he's bad what the heck is Rutgers?

Hey, that may be a good idea. Maybe he'd do well at an Ivy League University like Princeton.

JTIII's performance has been better than what Esherick was able to do, better overall and conference winning percentage.

He certainly has had a tough two years. However, everyone is so quick to want to fire the HC these days. 13 years at georgetown. 8 NCAA tourneys. One Final Four. Three Big East regular season championships. One Big East tournament championship.

I like JT III, but a bunch of his highly regarded recruits have not worked out so well in the past few years. Is that enough to get rid of the guy? Unless you think he's not up to recruiting (and the "rankings" of his classes say otherwise) I just don't see the need to get rid of him. In 2011-13 some Nova fans wanted to get rid of Jay Wright (missed tournament, couldnt get out of first weekend, etc). Sometimes program consistency is the right strategy
