Giving up three or four years of Malachi Nelson for one year of Howard? Wonder if Riley thinks Nelson may be a bust?

there's pressure for Riley to win right now, and this is a win right now move.
Riley is in over his head at USC and should have stayed in Norman. USC is an attractive job given how well you can recruit, but managing that talent in a city like LA has got to be a nightmare. There’s a reason they haven’t been nationally relevant since cheaty petey.

yea, it's not like they've had a Heisman winner and spent many weeks in the top 10 over the last two years or anything

totally irrelevant program

They are West Coast Notre Dame. Totally overrated given the talent they have year in year out. Only three dudes have won national titles there and two of them were all time greats.

Was scared to go to SEC thought Pac would fit his style ... plus LA life ... now has to coach in B1G

What does your last sentence mean?

They have 9 Nattys and have 7 Heisman trophy winners.

Wow, Fair amount of pressure going in. I would be surprised if he maintains that starting gig over the course of a season. Not necessarily because he plays poorly, but the heat will be on for USC to break through. L’s could be comin in hot!

I’m talking poll era to current day. Who cares about what they did when they were wearing leather helmets. If we’re counting Nattys from back then, then everyone and their mother has one too. We would have 9 if we counted those before poll era.

howard is easy to root for. got thrown to the wolves as a true freshman without spring practice when skylar thompson was injured. looked dreadful. then played behind oft-injured thompson. and later as a sophomore behind amart who was also hurt. found his way. won a championship. then got overrecruited - in some peoples' minds - by avery johnson. left with his accountancy degree. hopefully, to a great spot at usc. personally, wish he had ended up in lincoln. but trust he'll do well on the left coast. qb savant riley knows what he's getting having lost to him already.

IMO, think Riley creating a transition year to reshape his offense to best compete in BIG 10, possibly telling Nelson to find a better landing spot to best utilize his skills.

Have you been to USC? It's in the middle of the hood. It's nothing like West Chester PA.
yes, i was there for k-state's win over pete carroll's trojans. that was the weekend of 9/11. hard to forget. the usc campus is nice. the "university for spoiled children" after all. ha. he'll be fine.

Only problem Norman was getting tired of his no defensive teams..

He left at the right time before he over stayed his welcome..

It's definitely a statement on how USC feels about Nelson. They have spent a year with him and know him better than anyone else in the college game. They are basically declaring him a three star, maybe a low four. If you have a solid five star QB and a year in your program, you don't need to recruit a transfer.

silly take, Pac12 was an absolute buzz saw this year and they had a chance at beating the top two teams.

They overachieved last year and underachieved this year, but they were still a potent team

That doesn’t detract from the fact they have not been a threat to the title picture for years. They only won two more games in the regular season than us with last year’s Heisman winner. They have not been a true contender since Pete Carroll.

Look at this tool name dropping Pete Carroll, like KSU beating Pete’s team in 2001 was a major accomplishment. You guys beat the mighty 6-6 Trojans by a score of 10-6, in Pete’s first year at USC. RollingLaugh Fúck off!

They were a Caleb Williams injury away from making the playoffs in Riley's first year.

You can argue he's not on the same tier as Saban, Kirby, Meyer, etc and i'd agree with you. But Riley holds no responsibility for Clay Helton causing that program to completely atrophy the last multiple years.

USC would've lost 1, maybe 2 games on our schedule this year.
