The NCAA owes SMU a huge apology and a zillion dollars for all the garbage that goes on these days—this stuff, State Penn, the University of No Classes

I mentioned in the Brad Stevens thread and someone else noted in another that players in the pros are at least under contract and they need to negotiate their way out. The NCAA has essentially created and unregulated free market which may prove To be more harmful to the individual players - many of whom would not have access to a college degree without their sport.

I'm sure the "offer" is in the form of Cash, including strong a** offers, from some arranged third party, including apparel companies. As much as I love watching College Basketball, the sport is as dirty as it gets. One would think massive changes would have occurred after the 2017 disgrace, however, Nope, it just keeps on going, more dirtier than ever.

Although they were never my team I rooted for the Yankees in the 80s and 90s, but after a bunch of large FA contracts I slowly stopped rooting for them and now hate them.

i feel myself starting to hate on most of the P5 teams and maybe it is time to start rooting for smaller conferences. With hockey as a winter time alternative I can see myself slowly going away from basketball. The game is definitely evolving in a way I don’t like and the dirtiness and players crying to make money is definitely turning me off.

Completely predictable. This will be the new norm. And the big loser in all this is HS kids.
The big loser is Rutgers who operates as if they are competing in the Patriot League. I’d love to know what our staff has been doing the last year to maximize the use of the transfer portal. We are behind the curve as always.

Not sure there is anything wrong with this practically speaking. The rule is the rule but doesn’t make sense to have it in place to begin with.

The kids should have flexibility. Often times it’s coaches or family that connect the dots which I also see as no problem.

So perhaps Tez and Douc new their landing spots before they hit the portal.

Is this supposed to be news?

This is actually a benefit of the Transfer Portal.

Previously, players would be tampered with behind the scenes then just announce their transfer and new school.
So often their were "conditional releases" because of suspected tampering.

Now at least players have to publicly put their name in the Portal and allow other schools to try and jump in.

Wait until they can throw in perks like paying x for a kids autograph. It's going to be crazy. The death of college athletics. Every team is going to have a ton of turnover every year and it makes viewing much less enjoyable. You won't know the players nearly as well and at the end of the day they are nothing but low level professionals. Just watch the real pros at that point.

Great for Olympic sports though. Glad to see we have made serious inroads there.

And Rutgers. Rutgers doesn't have the down and dirty DNA to compete in arenas like this. Rutgers wants to win. The schools that do most know how to win. And most importantly, do whatever it takes. Frankly, our boosters need to be much more involved to reach that level. And not just involved. Willing.

And the most sound argument for the earning power the players are being deprived of...not trying to rehash that debate.

I don’t like the portal and free 1x transfer I think there should be parameters like free regardless of how many years eligibility of a coach leaves. Big then only free for players with 2 full years in the program.

The ports will stabilize over time but right now - it’s nuts.

Coaches making what they are making is the most damaging part right now.
Totally agree. It would never happen, but college coaches salaries should be capped at let's say 1.5 million. If they can't make do with "only" 1.5 million, then let them get a regular job or go to the pros.

I don't care if it is Nick Saban or John Calipari. Even though America is a free market system, capping what coaches can make is the way to go.

This would end a lot of the cheating.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Basketball coaches and politicians are from the same ilk. 90% are liars and cheats who will do anything to win. Of course coaches are whispering in kid’s ears saying they don’t play enough and the coach doesn’t respect them.....

We might not be squeaky clean but to truly be competitive at a high level, you need to be sown and dirty. We don’t have the stomach for that level.

Man F Dick Vitale.

According to a source one of his boys is doing some hoe sh*t tryna poach an ACC point guard who is not in the transfer portal.

And no, the NCAA doesn't owe SMU a huge apology or any money. Their football program cheated, got caught oh, she did some more and got caught again.

Then their basketball program was willing to accept the fact that Larry Brown was going to cheat his *** off in exchange for their program becoming a winner again so they could sellout games and a buncha merch.

Russ, I was referring to SMU football and them getting the death penalty. How in the world with many schools doing all kinds of stuff, has no one received the death penalty. If State Penn didn’t get it, then I don’t think anyone will ever get it again.

When Dahntay Jones announced that he was transferring out of RU, does anyone on this board believe he was not already signed, sealed, and delivered to Duke?

Two reasons:

1) The NCAA no longer has control over televised games like they did back when SMU football cheated. So they don't have the ability to take a team off of TV for a season or two.

2) if you watched the "30 for 30 Pony Excess" they interviewed someone from the NCAA and that person said that after they saw what their penalties did to SMU football the NCAA decided they were never going to penalize someone that harshly again.

I think RU will do enough in football. Basketball is an even lower level of dirt if that is possible and has been since man has walked upright. No, we don’t have the stomach to wallow in those depths. And now even “principled” coaches like Coach K have sold out to their AAU/sneaker company overlords to feed the proverbial beast.

1. Players don't have to publicly put their name in the transfer portal.
2. Players don't even have to tell their coaches that they are entering the transfer portal. They just have to fill out the appropriate paperwork and submit it to the Compliance Department.
3. Bags are getting dropped in the transfer portal.

Not a coincidence that RU has a bunch of Temple transfers in football and a former Temple Assistant on their staff.

If you want to believe there was no reaching out before they entered the Portal that's your right but it isn't reality.

Coach K principled? He has been the dirtiest coach since he left West Point. All you have to do is look at his coaching tree. Nearly everyone associated with him has been rumored to be or guilty of major recruiting violations when they became the head guy.
