My wife asked me this and I had no answer! Why are we considered scarlet and cream when it's clearly white?

Been that way for a long time. That's why the uniform Nazis are funny when they try and talk about "tradition"
Uniform nazi here. It is like everything else, Nebraska no longer pays attention to detail and it shows on the scoreboards. Lets hope as long as Moos is cleaning up how the players wear their uniforms and tidy up the charter plane and locker room, he will insist the equipment managers buy only scarlet and cream uniforms. The BB team has white unis on right now. I bet if they had cream unis, they would be up by 15 on the Badgers.
The throwback uniforms the bball team often wears are "cream" colored

Because "Go Big Cream" or "Go Big Scarlet" just don't have that ring to them.

Anyone ever notice a yellow tint to Nebraska helmets back in the 80's or 90's? I usually noticed it during away games with the white jerseys. I always assumed it was their cream, I could've been seeing things as well..

I always heard that, in older times, pure white clothing wasn't possible and cream was as close as they could get. This could just be some old wives tale though.

The man and woman in your profile picture are wearing black so, I don't know. A lot of teams wear black alternative jerseys.
If you see old gear at the stadium, the Scarlet used to be a darker shade of red. Not nearly so bright like we see today. The Cream was more of an off-white, not bright white like today. Pull the current colors into Photoshop, then dial down the brightness, and there ya go.
Oklahoma is Crimson and Cream.They also wear white jerseys and pants.
Can’t remember what year but they actually wore cream uniforms for a football game...It just might have been a basketball game too.
Come to think about it,maybe it was Indiana.
As far as I can remember we have always wore White in football and we have always wore red which was always more of a Red than Oklahoma which is darker red which is crimson.
Only 3 schools use cream for white.

Wearing black started with Danny Nee’s Basketball teams.
On occasions Tim Miles brings them out.
Volleyball team has worn black for quit sometime now.

Sunlight reflects yellow on white helmets? Idk. Maybe they were actual school colors back then, but likely not.
I recall the same thing the jerseys were white and the helmet didn’t quite match the jersey color.
For some reason I think it was during the Callahan era.
