What 3 players impressed you the most Thursday?

I'll go first:

Donovan Jones - used the bowl game as a springboard. Was all over the place. Made plays against the run and pass.

Hunter - Didn't know what to expect. Looks like he could be a legit #1.

Archie Wilson - first ever football game and looked like a veteran.

Impressive:

Donovan Jones - Strongly Agree. Dude looked like someone that will make a difference the next couple years.

Archie Wilson - It's early, but it feels like we've got someone we can trust back there to put pressure on the opposing offense and flip the field. Looking forward to him getting better and better.

Lindenmeyer - Looked good. Strong after the catch.

Unimpressive:

Marques Watson-Trent - I thought we'd see him around the ball a lot, but I barely noticed him. Could be because of the D-Line play though.

Riley Van Poppel, Keona Davis, Cam Lendhart - All appeared to play smaller than their size, which didn't play out well considering they already are a downgrade in size from the last two seasons. The poor performance may have been somewhat scheme driven... I got the sense we wanted them to rush the QB while simultaneously playing contain. I remember seeing our ends hold perfect containment, with the QB looking for a place to go, and then going after him leading to a solid scramble. And Rhule was yelling at them to get to the QB multiple times during the final drives (while I was yelling at my TV to play contain and spy the QB).

No one on our front 7 impressed me. Our secondary was not tested in the passing but the safeties did support somewhat in the run game. Gutherie had as many tackles as Jones and they have one more than Watson-Trent. Interior line stats were not impressive.

Singleton,DeShon - 7 Tackles3470.5/1-/---/-- ---
Nwaneri,Williams - 6 Tackles2460.5/2-/--1/-- 1-1
Wright,Javin - 5 Tackles1451.0/4-/---/-- ---
Buford Jr.,Marques - 5 Tackles5-5-/--/---/-- ---
Marshall,Andrew - 5 Tackles235-/--/---/-- 1--

Hunter and Key look like upgrades
Jones and Marshall played very well.
Hartzog played well
Singleton flew around and while he missed a few he also made a few good plays
Shavers needs to be our starter
Johnson ran tough
DR looked better

EJ played like a man.

Seems like it's been awhile since we have been able to learn on our starting RB.

Someone else HAS to step up in that room or he's going to get hurt.

I will go with Donovan Jones, he's flat out just a damn good football player. Marshall played well and Wright did very little but that might be due to the fact that they didn't throw his way. On the offensive side, Emmitt Johnson was a warrior out there.

I'm pretty sure they wanted nothing to do with Wright. Which makes sense to attack the 2 unproven players.

I’ll say Nwareni. While he wasn’t amazing, he held his own and didn’t totally disappear like I think we were all concerned about.

I think Cunanan, Riola and Key. Cunanan made a personal best 52yd kick and another one. Key caught all the passes thrown at him. Riola completed 79% of his passes.

He's going to just get better from here. Bright future!
It’s a great sign that he had a good game in his first game. Bodes well that he will continue to grow and flash his potential. Not sure what his problem was at Missouri, but I don’t really care if he performs here.

Looked to me like he posted an objective view. The PFF grades speak for themselves and point out little noticed factors. Haarberg? Wow. Jones has gotten a lot of love but he points out Guthrie.

I think I the point was that thread was literally about impressed you the most and he railed on the team and never said who impressed him at all.

Maybe he should have started a week 1 festivus thread and then the context of his objective post would have made sense.

That wasn’t the context of the thread. There are numerous other threads to post critical points about the team. One single thread about what players you were impressed with. Then he comes with all that non sense. That is hi-jacking a thread. That is opposite of being objective.

Travis and Taylor 💑💕💕💕
Tay Tay is in fact impressive. Not a fan of her music or politics but she’s smart and comes in a nice package. Hope they turn in to a 50 year team.

you’re worried about some one hijacking a thread? I guess my take away from his post was about Guthrie.

A little OT but I would love to see Lindenmeyer or Guttola line up at FB, even in the middle of the field for a few play. Give some more tape for opponents to look at.

Probably catch some hell for this but Elijah Pritchett impressed me. Dude has serious talent. Something we haven’t seen at tackle in while. The butt hurt blue hair frumpy dumps going to point to the offsides in the redzone, but dam, one play. We still should have been able to score on 1st and goal at the 5.

Turner and Guttola, are just not as good. I don’t know why they are playing outside of being the kind of work ethic Rhule loves. Losing coaches generally die on hills…

and I’m sure those two will look solid the next two weeks because they will be playing against the real talent level they should be. Just like Nelson and RB will. They need to be playing MAC-tion or FCS

The secondary impressed me the most. Next would be our skill position players on offense.

Front seven on defense and the offensive line were just average. I was expecting more from our offensive line in particular. But it was the first game.

I’ll need more of a sample size to give a real evaluation, but I’ll say this… I am REALLY glad we have Emmett at RB… the gap between him and the second back is enormous

so for now, just EJ

1. Fans - The false starts could have been the difference between a W and a L.
2. Archie - A great new weapon.
3. Cunanan - Giving confidence back to the FG game.
4. DB's - Expected to be the strength of the D and delivered.
5. TE1 - Must continue to use TE. A bully!
