I have a question about Bland:

Isn’t it true that if he’s not qualified ‘yet’ he could sign later in the spring and still join in the summer?
Not sure what the rules are specifically or what the cutoff timeframe is, and I know there’s a couple rules junkies on the board to help. Thanks in advance.

The cutoff time isn't the issue. The fact that if he signs an NLI and subsequently doesn't qualify, he still counts for the cycle. So that would reduce by 1 the number of potential transfers. Also would go against the number of scholarships that could be used next year that count back.

If we don't fill the class (get to 30), then the number of unfilled scholarships less than 30 can be used for early enrollees next year.

It's almost 10am. Isn't that when Houston said he would be announcing?

Thank you for the info. I meant how late he can sign his NLI? I thought they don’t have to sign on 2/6. Or at what point would it count towards 2020 numbers?

He won’t count toward the 2020 numbers at all.

Technically he doesn’t have to sign an NLI, but he Can sign one up until April 1.

If he, in fact, graduates in May and can get accepted to Nebraska, he can just enroll come June and be apart of the class. Assuming Nebraska still has room under the 30 (for 2019) and the 85

wrt Bland, is this just an issue of him not getting the academics done at his JUCO so that he can graduate and be on a D1 roster in August? And if the scholarship accounting is as Tuco describes there is no way Bland signs an NLI with NU. With Houston, I believe NU is at 84 of 85 spots. Would think there will be attrition in the Spring, but the staff will obviously look at transfers. So maybe the deal with Bland is that if he completes JUCO with a 2 year degree, then he heads to Lincoln on scholarship in the summer if a spot is open. If not, he looks elsewhere.

We loose out on two recruits late to Kansas and Kansas State? That stings a little.

Lost out on 1 recruit to Kansas...but he was sold by one specific recruiter...had commited to the same guy at TT, cant fault recruiting if a player develops a special bond with one coach. As for Pola Mao, for whatever reason we seemed to back off.

The Pola Mao situation seems so odd to me. I still think it’s academics and we’ll see if he actually can enroll at K-State. Or our staff really didn’t see him as being good enough, but the fact he took no visits and had very few schools paying him any attention screams non-qualifier.

I think pretty much anyone can enroll at Kansas State. I’m also wondering if the staff is holding back a couple of scholarships as there are some grad transfers expressing interest here.

Bland is a still potentially big piece of this class, and if we can get him looking qualified this semester and signed by April 1, that would be fantastic.
