What's New on Offense????

I'm thinking Iowa actually look a little different on offense. Or, at least more of old things we haven't done often. I'm thinking more receiver screens for both K Brown and Seth Anderson. I also think the RBs will have more motion, either lined up wide and moving into the backfield or from the backfield to receiver.

Iowa won't look like the Warren Moon Oilers, but I think the new pressure to score, combined with a marked improvement at both receiver and, of course, QB will incentivize some necessary creativity.

Optimists, your thoughts?

Anything's possible, but we all should know by now that you can't believe it until you see it when it comes to "offense" under KF & Son.

I was messing around on YouTube the other day and came across video from the 1960 Iowa team. Although I know many posters' initial inclination will be to mock my observations, no problem. Enjoy yourselves. But here's my take:

KF & Son could do worse . . . they have, of course . . . than to study that ancient Iowa offense and incorporate some of the concepts--especially of motion and misdirection with TWO running backs in the backfield. Of course, it is pretty deceptive to have a single running back and the entire line moving in one direction. Imagine the pressure that puts on the opposing defense . . . You don't have to imagine it. We've all seen it for too much of KF's tenure--the defense flowing to the spot and waiting to overwhelm the ball carrier. Nothing like stretch left and stretch right, especially when you're playing a fullback at the RB position as in the Mark Weisman days. I loved Weisman. He did a heckuva job, but KF made his task much more difficult than it should have been.

Anyway, check out that 1960 Iowa offense on YouTube if you're so inclined and see why Evy was nationally acclaimed as an offensive genius . . . and why KF & Son are not.

I'm not saying run the wing-T, but I am saying borrow some of those concepts and add a few of them to the playbook.

Both of the above posts have very valid points.

I said last year, that with our weaknesses, we should have been running more RB screens than any team in the country. The problem is that to be effective, they require a high level of coordination (coordinator) and we don't have that.

For years I've been saying it's unbelievable that KF can't see that he is surrounded by film of Evy and Snyder offensive genius. I guess nobody is as blind as he who will not see.
