What happened to tournaments and overall matches?

It just seems like the emphasis is being placed on not actually competing anymore.

Bigger, faster, more competitive…coaches have to slow it down to win the “main prize” after a long season.

Sports specialization. Kids can wrestle 150 matches year for multiple years before they hit college. Years ago 50 matches a year was a lot. Wear and tear on the same muscles and joints 11 months a year for 3-4 years before college. A college coach has to manage the asset nowadays. Same reason 16-17 year old kids are getting Tommy John surgery theyre throwing 11 months a year
