A player on a college football team tests positive after they’ve been practicing for a couple of weeks?

Regardless of how much we’ve flattened the curve between now and then, if there have been no significant medical breakthroughs in the areas of both treatment and vaccination by August, I feel safe in saying that group sports will remain indefinitely postponed

Even with all the testing in the world, there are just too many people involved from reporters and game day operation folks to players and officials. It will not be possible to continuously keep testing them all on an ongoing basis

There's not going to be a football season.

What makes you so sure of that? Do you really believe people are going to quit living their life? My guess is things go back to normal by mid to late May regardless of if this virus is done or not.

I think sports will be back this summer. Testing, tracing, and isolating will ramp up big time over the next 45 days. Warm weather and therapeutics on the way too. My bet is NBA on TV with empty arenas by May-June. Modified MLB season shortly after. It will not be a big deal to test all participants by that point... Fans in the stands may take a while. But it will happen before football season.

Cause August is NFL training camp. Nothing can get in the way of the NFL. Earthbound meteors have been known to turn out of fear of pissing off the NFL.

I agree, but I'm curious if they'll allow fans. Short of a vaccine being developed and distributed within the next 6 months - its hard to imagine 60,000 people be allowed into Davis Wade this September. We'd all be infected before we got through the metal detectors.

It's gonna happen. It's gonna happen two weeks after the NBA restarts, and it's gonna happen two weeks after MLB starts up, too. We have to get to the point where we can treat this like the flu or we are going to be paralyzed forever.

I think you are underestimating us here in a big way. The tests are getting better and better and we'll be producing them at an unfathomable rate within a month. I suspect we get to a point of a daily self-test for those types of people.

I said two weeks ago I could see MLB starting up the 4th of July weekend.
Think it may be in early June now.
The nba, who cares if they start back or not.
Just hate we missed out on March Madness and a great college baseball season.

yeah, we are going to set this country back 200 years if we continue to deal with covid-19 as we are now. I'm not advocating that people rush back to work and normal life. But there needs to be an aggressive push now to get the work force, back to work. In all areas. With that said, I see entertainment and sports being the industry with the least priority and getting back to normal the latest in all this.

I hear you, but it’s honesty not the 170 or so players that concern me. It’s the 70-110k other folks crammed into a stadium, and I just don’t see us ever getting to a point where testing is going to be the sole answer to returning to norm

If we get to August and there have still been no breakthroughs, I suppose that playing in empty stadiums will be on the table as a temporary option, but I guess I say all that to say... we really need a breakthrough badly
