What about Josh Pastner?

Apparently he is really on the hot seat at Memphis. Pastner recently took a big shot at the main beat writer for Memphis who called for his firing. Tough standards there. He is 14-11 and 5-7 in the AAC and the Pyramid looks empty for tonights games against Central Florida. I realize the guy makes mucho bucks at Memphis but if they let him go, he certainly is going to be a desirable candidate for other jobs even Power 5 jobs. Not sure RU can win a bidding war for him but this certainly would be the bright young energetic guy that could sell the vision here

He still has a whopping 4 years left on a deal that gives him $2.65 million a year! WOW! He has gone 32-25 the past two seasons but had great success with the transition years from Calipari going 31-5 in 2013. Overall he is 162-69 in 7 seasons.

I think he'd be less effective at Rutgers than Memphis. And he'd cost s lot.

He's benefited from generous Memphis boosters and that wouldn't translate here.

Upgrade? Could be. But taken all of the above into account I'd pass. Don't think he'd come here anyway.

he's not going anywhere....Memphis is having a down couple of years, but they'll be back.

I don't know there is some real bad blood now going on with Pastner and the media plus attendance there has declined to about 6K which means they wont get 800K from the Grizzlies if they don't exceed a certain attendance number

Looks like he's trending the wrong way. I'd rather take a chance on a young up-and-comer.

Tom Crean would have been someone to talk to, but I think he saved his job this year.

The Memphisians have delusions of grandeur. They think they should be a national power which isn't going to happen languishing in the AAC.

I think he's gone

UConn won it 2 years ago

Memphis in Finals 6-7 years ago.

VCU has made the Final 4 recently.

I would agree with you if this was the football board but hoops is a different animal.

Eventually, the $$ discrepancies between the have and have not conferences will grow be too great for the non power 5 conferences to be considered part of major college sports.

The "split" between them has really just happened with the expansion craziness so it's way too soon to see it. But it's coming.

I'm just happy we are we are , and I'm not just saying what I'm saying because we were lucky enough to be in the B1G. I said the same thing about the Big East and AAC when we were stuck in it.

Memphis has multiple Final Four appearances despite never being in a marquee conference. I'm not so sure that their fans are that delusional. Granted, it took some cheating, but they seem to hire coaches who don't have a problem with that.

That was then, this is now.

And look what happened when they got a great coach--he left for a better job in a P5 conference. This is going to be another key factor for the non P5s---as soon as they get success, their coach will leave for bigger name jobs. There will always be exceptions (look at GS who turned down Michigan for example) but those are going to be rarities.

Kentucky is the best job in college basketball. They have lured coaches from other P5 squads to the school.

I just think its OK for Memphis to miss the NCAA tournament sometimes. They aren't UNC or Duke or Kentucky and they never will be and if their fans /administration is pissed off that this is not the case then they will reap what they sow.

Frankly I hope they fire him, I'd like to see Pastner on our short list.
