Our defense is 334th in fouls committed to opponent FGA. It’s been a big problem.
I meant to say Rivera got it in the face..... that flagrant call.... anyway one call does not a game make..... just frustrated about what I thought was a bad game by us AND the refs.....It seemed to be a pretty by the book call to me. You just don't see it very often. Just as a shooter isn't supposed to be able to kick his legs out because he is then out of the "cylinder."
You can certainly be in the offensive player's space and not make contact. I think we are actually pretty effective at that. This happened to be a case the contact was significant enough to warrant a foul. The blocking call was because Rivera was in the Butler player's space.
This is similar to how a defender can be called for a charge when he runs through an offensive player trying to set a screen. If the offensive player is set, the defender has no right to bowl him over.
The Hines foul was not a flagrant to me. He was hit by the ball in the face. Arguably it wasn't even a foul because the player did not make contact with him (that I could see).
I know everyone is frustrated by the 25% shooting from deep during conference play. Our weaknesses were exposed. To suggest otherwise is pollyannish. Poor shooting team. Struggle with zone. Our PG has struggles with fouls this season. Our FT is not what it needs to be. And Why we chuck it from the cheap seats is a puzzle to me. And it also accounts for some of the foul disparity.
Hines, especially for a center, has been great at the line all year. So yes that was very frustrating and a killer.Hines missing the 2 FT that would have cut it to 4 a killer...
Tough to be a top team with the extreme 3PT production. But that’s also a philosophy of Shaheen.I know everyone is frustrated by the 25% shooting from deep during conference play.
but they aren’t just jacking threes. The take the fewest of any team in the BE during conference play. 14.2. More than 8 less than their opponents who average 22.8 vs the Hall.
We didn’t recruit shooters, they cost A LOT OF MONEY. You are now seeing the results of what happens when poor shooters, playing a level up or two, revert to the mean.
The team was picked last by everyone because of the unproven skill / talent on the offensive end. No one could predict that the effort defensively would make up for that and keep them competitive and winning games.
but to expect them to all of a sudden become good shooters is ridiculous.
If you can't make shots you're not going to beat a
We got killed fighting thru screens yesterday ss they just turned the corner and drove or pick and rolled us to deathHolloway has this team fighting through screens every time. While there are numerous moving screens on the perimeter (ever so obvious when you see it live), I think Sha needs to have the guys sometimes go under screens. Offer a little of both.
I just don’t see many power schools have guys fighting through screens as much anymore outside of crunch time. Refs don’t know how to call the contact correctly and the moment the ball handler falters, it’s an immediate foul on one of our guards. We must pick up 3-4 fouls every game this way.
And I can’t remember a moving screen ever being called in our favor yet this year in conference play.
Have to start playing some zone defense when Budd is out there for various reasons. Not only do we need to show some different looks, but also just to stay out of foul trouble
I believe we are 5-4 against Quad 1& 2 teams. My understanding is that for an NCAA bid you need to be at least .500 in that metric. Does not leave much room for error. If we continue to play like this, we will only win a handful of games moving forward. We weren’t going to get through this year without a bad loss. Only have room for 1 more at most.
