Western Mich game 1

It was quite the offensive display today at the park. The wind was blowing out and it was decent weather again. It was nearly a four hour game due to multiple pitching changes and slow pace of play, but its always nice to put up 21 runs. Lucas and Sturgeon hit home runs, and Gibson, Lyman, and Gardner all had good days as well. Corey Ray pinch hit late in the game and the almost put one over the fence. Pitching was not the best today, Filomeno had another shaky outing. There were a lot of walks from our pitchers, and command was an issue for some guys. Game at 1 tomorrow.

Always fun at sunny JPS but like the OP said it was nearly 4 hours for a 9 inning game. I don't think I've ever seen so many full counts in one game before. My new favorite player Will Smith was definitely gettin it done at the plate if not jiggy wit it.

The offense is looking great but although it is early, I am concerned about our starting pitching. 2nd consecutive game where Filomeno has failed to go more than 4 innings. Today he only went 3 innings and threw 90 pitches???? I know the wind was a factor but wow! Let's see how Funk does tomorrow! Go Cards!

I have the same concerns but I have faith that Jared Ruxer is going to regain his freshman form and that Funkhouser is going to emerge as a solid starter.

Does anyone know what's going on with Anthony Kidston? Just watching him in limited outings last year I though this guy had a bright future.

We need to score more than 21. ;-)

Kidston was shut down last season and they are being very careful with him. I think he is ok but I heard or read something that it may be a couple of weeks before we see him for meaningful innings. Looks like we are going to need him or maybe we rely on the freshman.
