WC off to a 4-1 start with a foriet from Sandhills. They looking at maybe 6-1 going into Whiteville game in 3 weeks? Ant thoughts?

They looked pretty good against Lakewood last night. Difference in the game was big plays by WC and dropped passes by Lakewood. WC has some good skill people and a couple of very good lineman.
Great start for WC. It would be great if they played Whiteville at 6 wins. I think they have a good team. Why did Sandhills cancel?
I don't think Sandhills played but 1 game this year. This conf. is so darn week now. Whiteville and Pender pretty damn good
Strick WC defense has really improved. Got good d athletes now on both sides of ball. A smart QB makes good decisions . Overall much improved. ?? Can coach's be at level of more experienced coach's in league.
Only thing that’s gonna hurt WC is they haven’t played any good football teams … I get a soft schedule to build confidence for a program that’s struggled for a long time now…. but it won’t do them any favors come conference time … even tho South has only won one game they’ve had a brutal schedule compared to the Vikings …. But I’ll guess we’ll see how it plays out.
Normally I just read what’s on here, but I figured I may as well give my opinion too.
As far as the schedule, WC is a small 1A school with around 400 kids so I’m ok with playing other 1A teams and 2A West Bladen, even though West Bladen is down this year. 1A North Moore is a good team that will probably be a high seed in the 1A East Playoffs and our game with them was closer than what the score indicated. We were able to get a win at 1A Lakewood on 9/16, then Lakewood went to Pender last night and defeated them 35-34. Pender has many players back from their team that went to the 1A East Championship last year. Pender gave the 1A State Champs Tarboro a good game in that 1A East Championship. On the forums, I also don’t see a lot of credit given to coaches in general when things are moving in a positive direction. I’m proud of the job Coach LaMonte WillIamson has done with the program. WC is one of the toughest programs to turnaround and he’s made improvement every year even thru a pandemic. He’s also an alumni of WC who chose to came back to turn the program around. The kids have really rallied around the culture he has created. Hoping things continue to move in a positive direction for WC and ALL the teams in Columbus County. Again, not knocking anyone else’s opinion on here, I just wanted to throw my two cents in as well.

Our conf. is WEAK. This year. Playing soft teams don't give coaches a good look on how OL DL,QB will react when playing tougher teams. WC will get a clearer picture on the program from here on out. They look improved to me but when you play SC,Whiteville,Pender we see. SC is down some now but played brutal schedule. This will help them in conf. play IMO. I like to see all county teams be competitive. And yes coaching experience does matter when in very close games.
My comment wasn’t throwing any shade at WC… I was just stating…. well… facts…. I’m with you i want ALL Columbus County schools to be good and competitive it makes it more fun…. and WC has always had talent walking the hallways over there rather they’ve chose to play football or not is a different conversation but seems like they’ve found a good HC that’s got them pointed in the right direction…
Core31, no offense taken at all. I just wanted to make sure our coach gets his due when I can even though he doesn’t ask for it. We are starting to get the athletes in the halls to play more thanks to him, but these kids need to be playing sports year round, especially at the small schools. I think adding a Rec football program on our end is helping too. Whiteville and South were the only places for the younger kids to go play and learn the game until a few years ago when we started. I would love to see a Rec football program on the East Columbus side too. Our game against Trask is being moved to Monday, so is South’s game at Pender. It will be a busy week next week for West and South.
There wasn’t a fight, but we did have a player ejected so he can’t play against SC. Some folks ask about Trask. They are a much improved team and their community is rallying around them, but we are proud the way the community has rallied around WC this week.
A lot of things going on that folks don’t know about at WC, but the kids are being prepared. The Head Coach is out for a couple of days, but he will be back Friday for the game. He laid out a solid plan to have his assistants get them ready for hopefully a good game against SC Friday. Hopefully it will be a good clean game and both sides can just focus on playing football.
Stuff was blown out of proportion Friday night. Arguments happen in football and emotions get the best of us. Trask is definitely not the same team they have been in years past that’s for sure!! West Columbus should make a deep run in the 1A playoffs imo. They got the players on that team to compete.
