Kyle being out obviously hurts us. On the other hand, the Gophers didn't know how we would attack them early. Thank goodness Benjamin was able go return today to help spell Raymond.
The backs today did a great job from what they needed to do. Athan was able to get comfortable passing and we hit some big plays downfield. Hopefully we see a more balanced offense the rest of the season.

I do wonder how this game would have turned out with Kyle Monangai starting. Would he have gotten more plays instead of some of the passing plays? Would the result have been different?

Certainly hope he's available going forward. But this game shows you can rely a little more on a passing game too... and we should in the B1G.

That is a very interesting angle you have there.

Would Monangai gotten more carries so that Minnesota could go full Run-blitz D and just a sheer numbers game run/pass put us in a hole we could not dig out of?

Did the offense get more creative and unpredictable because it did not have Monangai to lean on?

Maybe we can do both.. be more creative and aggressive AND still use Monangai?

Agree. I understand the plan with RU is to focus the offense on Monangai, control the clock, keep the opponent's offense off of the field. But it usually makes the passing game a secondary thought. And rarely does the Rutgers offense send its receivers deep more than a small handful of times unless it absolutely needs to late. How about using the passing game (both short and deep) to start and then bringing in Monangai and the run game later rather than from the start?

If the Rutgers defense finds itself in a shoot-out, the offense will have to have more of game like the Minnesota game. The time will come to control the game with Monangai... all I'm saying is that maybe its something that comes later rather than up front. Besides, if you have some passing success early, it should enhance the runs by Kyle Monangai.

Courtesy of noon and last two home games being horrid. Hopefully Illinois is a nice weather 3:30
But those excuses are not good enough !

Cant roll out of bed at 11 , get to stadium by noon and spend 3 hours with your friends outside in perfect weather rooting on YOUR SCHOOL.

Only 6 or 7 of these every year.

I really dont get it. I cant imagine that many students had legitimate reasons to stay home.

Benjamin is our best back still available. He was great last year before he got hurt. He also caught the swing pass for. 30 yard TD last year . So if the OC remembers to call a swing pass, kinda like waiting for a meteor to land , I would think Benjamin would be really good at it. Can catch, breaks tackles and can make people miss in the open field. If only the OC could see it .,

Maybe they got tired of the ball busting in the tailgating lots, the lines to get into the stadium, the ****** loud music from the sucky dj, and the mediocre performance of the team.

And while many around the country wrongly think of Rutgers as an urban commuter school (and our ads shown during games does nothing to disabuse them of that idea.. showing all indoor scenes and none of vast green campuses despite drone camera tech being dirt cheap) .. Rutgers IS a suitcase school.. where many weekends are used to go home, meet HS friends, do laundry.. etc.. So there is a calculation as to what's best every weekend. There's a reason why Thursday night was (and likely still is) the big party night at Rutgers. People clear out on weekends.

I feel like a hangover is a good one. School work. Remember when you were 18-22. I didn't make it to every game then.

Did you notice the horn appeared more random this past weekend? I felt like they were leaning on it randomly in between plays after doing much better earlier in the season.

What’s not to get? Students don’t need an excuse or reason to not go to a FB game. They can simply have no interest in going. It’s not like it’s some kind of requirement or there’s some kind of expectation that they attend.

So I did something I’ve never done before - We were away for NJ convention this week in the Bahamas. On Saturday AM, I checked out the Sports Book over there… I made a nice chuck betting on Rutgers.

I normally don’t bet at all, and never on Rutgers, but aligned with the point you made, I felt that the line on Athan’s total passing yards was so low it almost had to be a mistake at 180. With Kyle not playing, I just couldn’t picture any scenerio where he wouldn’t clear that - win or lose - because I knew we’d be throwing a ton. I found it fascinating that even without Kyle, Vegas seemed to expect us to keep the ball on the ground. I knew Greg wouldn’t do that though. Not with only a frosh and sophomore RB duo available.
