So do we have a big enough sample size to say that school reopenings have largely been successful or do we need to wait another week or two to judge? Legitimately asking, I’m sure there are others on this board more informed than me.

We’re now at the point where most districts and all of the universities have been back in school at least 2 weeks with many being back for 3-4 weeks, and the numbers have declined in that period. Should we be concerned about a spike in September because of lagging data about schools or would a spike related to simply having students back in class have already happened by now? Appreciate any thoughts on this.

The September numbers will answer those questions

Mid September will tell us about schools. End of September will tell us about Labor Day.

Cherokee County which is just north of Atlanta Metro has been in for 3 weeks and this is their data. They are also mask optional. Looking pretty good so far.

I think the college thing is a whole other ball of wax. Illinois cases are through the roof, but as I understand it they are testing every student twice a week. If they did that in Cherokee, no doubt the numbers would be higher, but it seems they are doing fine without testing everybody.

If they keep up what they are doing here, it will be fine. Lots of contact tracing, masking, and quarantines. Numbers have been manageable and spread has been limited.

I am cautiously optimistic about the he effect school reopenings have had thus far. I was holding my breath when they opened, but thus far the numbers at my hospital have declined significantly: compare that to college cases exploding and I think it shows that if there is a definite plan that is followed we can whip this thing until a vaccine gets here. Labor Day feels different too. I’m not as worried as I was from previous 3 day weekends. I really feel like we are on a definite decline. This probably means it’s about to wipe out half the population because every time I have predicted this virus would zig it has elected to zag.

At least in rankin county it’s still too soon to tell. They were hybrid (all students basically went in person two days a week) for the first two weeks with reduced classroom size but opened up full throttle last Monday (August 31). It seems like it would hold true that any spike from schools should present in the data sometime during the week of the 16th.

I'm not a virologist but I think the virus mutation is less lethal and herd immunity could be setting in for MS. Should cases start to spike after this weekend it wouldn't surprise me but I think hospitalizations and deaths will still continue to fall

I’m not a virologist either but I think the virus is ramping up for the winter and I expect cases to spike and the severity to increase as we see a big spike in hospitalizations and deaths.

Smh. Both statements should stop at “I’m not a virologist”.

India only has 1.7 billion people living in a country that is only half the size of the continental US. Talk about hard to socially distance. Whatever their number ends up being you can write it down that China's real number was probably more, being that its not as novel as it once was and survival rates are going up in most places.

It looks like the percentage of College Students that get hospitalized from Covid is pretty much Zero.

Channel surfing and flipped thru the NBA playoff game, and noticed the officials are not wearing masks.

Seems like basketball officials would be in a lot more Covid danger, being inside and close to the players, than football officials are, yet football officials are required to wear masks. Can't see the basketball benches to tell whether players not in the game are masked.

Your insufferable. Please please stop you cannot look and the data and be rational
Lol, I didn't even post anything, I just agreed with something someone else posted. The delay has been shown by data to be about a month from big events. The numbers now are good. If it holds through September than that is fantastic. I really hope it does.

From the little I have watched I dont remember seeing any masks on the bench, but they had the bench seats staggered 4-5 feet apart. The bench players would probably be fine until they circled up for TO's. I've been really impressed with how well that bubble in Orlando has worked. It took a lot of players buying into a common good and they seem to be doing that.

I haven’t watched a game, but are they using traditional whistles or the hand ones? Whistles spray out an insanely high amount of spit.

So the “wait two weeks”

Give me data for the counties they are located in in 3-4 weeks. if it holds then OUTSTANDING.

Needs one to two weeks to get warmed up?
You have to be laughing as you type these responses, right? We’re all laughing as we read them.

Aren't the NBA officials staying in the bubble fulltime, like the players? If so, no need to wear a mask.

Didn't think of the bubble, but yes, I suppose they must be. Otherwise there'd be no need for the players to bubble if the bubble was broken by officials.

Didnt know of anything other than being little husky, but not what I'd consider obese. His sister told me the Dr told the family he must have had something else going on that they had never diagnosed because he went from no symptoms to gone in about 3-4 days.

He is a Rona bro. He hates this good news On another board he posted about several people he knows has it. Before that he was touting how many people he knows died. He is making up most of this to hold onto his fear. L4 would rather make things up than acknowledge things are better. But wait two weeks
