Full disclosure, I'm just not that big of a fan of Christmas. I'm all for what it stands for, don't get me wrong but here's what I don't like...xmas lights, who cares? xmas trees, my wife literally has one up year round (don't get me going on that). The mess of all the wrapping paper that my OCD won't let me leave until we're done opening presents. Matching pajamas...WTF!? I can already see the text from Jimmy Bartee on this, "u need 2 bee nicer to ur wife n get bak 2 wurk" (probably get that about midnight tonight). I say all that tongue and cheek because I kind of purposely play the role of the Grinch in our family to get under peoples skin but let me tell you what I do love and consider my Christmas...Playoff Football. There is something magical about a 300+ mile trip. Movies on the bus, walk through at a school your players have never heard of, and an afternoon kick off. Man, just gets me going!
It's the most wonderful time of the year
I could go on and on about this but as I heard many times this last weekend in Superior celebrating Brian Blevins 100th win from the salad king himself, Dustin Kronhofmann well, you already know what he loves to say to me so lets get to it...
Week 9-
Class C1: O'Neill over Columbus Lakeview...A few weeks ago I mentioned Kurt Frenzen being a great guy. Well, so is Brock Eichelberger. The guy averaged like 40 carries a game his senior year on a bum leg (Information provided by former Beemer coach Ken Kneifl so blame him if you're reading this Brock). Gonna be a great, one score, game of the year type battle.
Class C2: Cedar over Norfolk Catholic (Gasp!)...Really not going to say much on this one, just want to sit back and see it play out in person. In a perfect world, they play again in Lincoln and Cedar exercises the demons of 2001, 2009, 2014, and 2022.
8man First Round-
Class D1: Hemingford over East Butler...I begged my parents to let me go to EB for high school. Grew up with guys with the last name Zitek, Tesinsky, Bohac. Would of been fun but Seward worked out just fine. If anyone from Butler Co is curious it's pronounced "Ford" not "Ferd".
Wausa/Osmond over Summerland...I'm sure Tom Thramer (fellow WSC guy) is printing this off for his guys to add fuel to the fire. I think W/O has a couple (or more?) playoff wins in them this year.
Class D2: Deshler over Elm Creek...Drove through Deshler on Saturday and called DHS alum Casey Fangmeyer to meet me in Guide Rock for one his famous Captain Morgan and Red's apple ales. We did and Jason Heldt came along, life was good.
Wynot over Fullerton...Coached my first game ever in Wynot. Hartington 13 - Wynot 12. Life was good. Coached my last game at Sutherland in the first round in Fullerton in about 20 Degrees, 40 mph wind (Rusty Fuller and Zach Wemhoff, you guys were there...for about 10 min.) Fullerton 72 - Sutherland 30. Life was not so good.
'Twas the night before playoff football and all through the state not a creature was stirring not even Jimmy Bartee's playoff reffing slate.
