I have zero research to back this up but I'm guessing that somewhere around 10% of coaches to ever walk the sidelines in the state of Nebraska have reached 100 wins. We're not all like Jeff Bellar, who unbelievably reached 300 wins in only 349 games (I'll never forget that stat), so hear me out. It's frickin hard! I had 19 wins in 5 years as a head coach, that's 3.8/year. It would have taken me over 26 years to get to 100 (literally laughing at myself with how ridiculous that sounds). It's just not as easy as some have made it look. I say all this because in all likely hood (never say never) Brian Blevins at Lawrence Nelson will collect his 100th win tomorrow night vs Giltner. No secrets here, one of my closest friends and I'll be very happy for him. Whether you've been a coach or not, won 100+ games or not, we're all here because we love high school football and with playoff football right around the corner lets raise a glass of your favorite beverage (Twisted Tea for me but that new Surfside sh*t is good!) and cheers to the best time of the year
Class B: Seward over York...old school rivalry that I experienced first hand (Go Jays). Seward has won 5 in a row, they stay hot.
Class C1: Lakeview over Pierce...Kurt Frenzen is one heck of a great guy....but then again so is Darin Suckstorf.
Class C2: Cedar Catholic over Oakland-Craig...OC has been lights out defensively this year only giving up 6 total points but that offense just can't get on the board. The boys in the desert have Cedar -.5 and I'm gonna load up on the trojans to cover, move to 8-0 and set up the biggest game of the year in C2 next week with the aforementioned Jeff Bellar and his NC Knights . (I swear if I get one text that this is going to be a 1-0 forfeit win for Cedar like I didn't know I'll slap the sh*t outta you!)
Class D1: McCool Junction over Shelby Rising City...No love lost here (long story) and no way I'm picking against Jarrod Weiss when he drove all the way to Hartington this summer for HN assistant Mike Johnson's wedding (long night)!
Class D2: Humphrey St Francis err whatever the heck they're called now over Howells-Dodge...Kinda one of those picks like I do constantly for whoever plays Husker football, I'll be happy if I'm wrong.
Class D6: Crawford over Arthur Co...Just south of Crawford is the only railway tunnel ever constructed in Nebraska, the Belmont Tunnel. Really cool, creepy place at night. Google it or better yet check it out in person sometime.
Have a great weekend everyone, 8 man brackets released Saturday morning!
