What are your thoughts about using "we" when referring to a team? Is there a distinction between alumni, city, state, general fanhood? Who can use "we"?

I generally don’t use “we” when referring to Kentucky basketball because I’m not on the team or a coach or anything. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean, I get it. It’s the team WE take pride in so I don’t think it’s totally ridiculous to say “we” need to sign this recruit or “we” need to defend the pick & roll better or whatever. But I feel like some people are a bit to serious about what “we” actually have to do with the program. It becomes “I've had it. WE need to get rid of Barbee” or whatever, as if WE actually have a say in anything.

In general the only time I call the team “we” is when differentiating in the same post between Kentucky and another team. “They have good guards but ours should be able to handle them” kind of thing.

I use “we” and feel I have the right. I was born and raised in Harlan, Ky. My goodness that alone should be enough! I started listening to Cawood, I’m fairly certain you know where he was from, when I was 8, graduated from UK with honor’s and distinction, pull for ALL things UK, and for anyone from Kentucky to find success. Yea I think I’ll use “we” whenever I want.

I use "we" all the time.

I teach HS and when we talk about "our" school and "our" teams we all say "we."

Same with UK. Fans, alums, players, former players.

BBN is a "WE" thing.

I only use " We". when I set at home with the game on , in my authentic Game Uniform , with my face painted blue , two blue pompoms , a roster , the radio, my scorebook . Other times I just say " The Cats". ... Good Lord people.

One of the first thing I ever remember is my dad tell me to be quiet and listen to the ball game, I think I was 3. Now 70 years later and living and dieting with every play and game I think I've earned the right to say "we". I wonder how many have driven from far western ky to a game and driven back for work the next morning, both basketball and football.

It only annoys me when someone uses “we” when bragging, aka “we own you”. I don’t use it often, but it rolls off the tongue easier.

We implies some ownership or buy in. They implies more separation. Use whichever one you feel. No requirement to be a UKGrad.

I have no problem with any UK fan using "we" regardless if they went to UK or not...what the hell difference does it make? "We" are all fans and this is coming from an Alum.

I say it all. I say we I say they. I even been known to call Cal a few bad words. It’s all fine with me.

It's just a habit for me. Out of all sports, UK BB is my favorite by a large margin and I love FB. I have been a diehard UK BB fan since I can remember and live and die with the wins and losses. I love the cats and am super passionate about UK BB and our rich history. I don't see why people get hung up on it. I mean you're either on board or you're not. It's us win or lose and especially for BBN I feel like we are some of the most dedicated fans in the world so does it really hurt to refer to your favorite team as us when you're vested and feel overwhelming joy when we win and horrible depression and anger when we lose. They hate us cause they ain't us. :D
