Yeah... but we still cause them problems because we travel well and demand our fare share of tickets for their homecoming game. So take THAT!! 💪

I think we are statistically the worst team in college football since 2016 and I am sure the coaches of the other teams know how bad our staff actually is...since our best coach by far has only been at Syracuse. Crazy to think about considering that we have been in the weakest division in power 5 as well for that time. Since it can't get much worse, hopefully fans start boycotting games and stop feeding the scammers...that might be the only thing that makes real competent change.

We are what Kansas Kansas State and Iowa state used to be in the Big 8. 50, 60 point victory for homecoming

I’m gonna have to call this a little overly dramatic… at least wait for the other 2 games to drop before calling us Kansas/kansas St. We may keep the score closer than 50 or 60 points against those 2… maybe.

I was thinking more of all the huge wins we used to have over those teams. Not that we necessarily will lose by that much all the time. But the precedent was set last week

Yes we beat Purdue. But they decided they had a chance against us and there we were the Homecoming opponent
You and I have different definitions of cupcakes, that’s all. Being outscored by 18 at home doesn’t qualify as cupcake material.

I wish we were Minnesota

I meant it in the sense that at one time, Minnesota was relevant in college football. Very similar trajectory to us, just a couple decades earlier. Multiple National and Conference Championships, hell they even had a Heisman winner. Only real difference is theirs was like the 40s through the 60s and ours was the 70s through the 90s.

We can all sit here and say, well yeah but theirs was forever ago. Well, at some point, we keep on this path, and people will be saying the same about us. Honestly, most people outside of our fanbase already do.

Yeah, Minnesota has put together a few decent little seasons here and there as of late. Made it to, and even won a few meaningless bowl games from time to time. But nobody has any delusions of them actually being relevant again. And the more these years go by, the closer we are to becoming just like that. If we're not already there.

Makes me sad to have to admit it.

It's been this way outside our bubble for almost 5 years. Pains most cfb fans too. Nebraska is thought of as a has been. A team that won in leather helmets.

How about 56-7 and the trainwreck getting ready for this weekend? I'm saying Purdue looked at the schedule and said we might have a chance against Nebraska

I’m saying leave Purdue off your cupcake list and you have a great point.

he's talking about perception

Purdue looked at its schedule and perceived us - right or wrong - as a team they could beat

thus, we were their homecoming game

Teams don’t really get to pick their homecoming opponents, do they? Isn’t that up to the conference (which means the TV rights holders)?

Fair enough, then Purdue was sadly mistaken to think we were a cupcake.

So what will be the change? Cannot keep firing coaches and paying them off. We need more talented players.

there are 2 ways to get better players:

1. recruit them

2. coach/develop them
And take a page from Cignetti. Hit the portal hard while developing young players. But sadly I don't think this staff can identify talent that can come in and make an immediate impact.

According to Cignetti it’s not that complicated. He said you go after productive players, players that have proved they can do it at this level. Don’t go after measurables and prior HS recruiting rankings (Jeff Simms cough cough) go after production. Plain and simple.

Wait, what?!! You mean bringing in bench riders and injured guys who were once overrated high school players isn't a good strategy? Too bad none of us had thought of that sooner.

You don’t go to the portal looking for potential that you can develop. You go to get immediate production, proven production. Seems so fvcking simple, yet so many coaches (ours included) go after projects. Like that giant vape shop bandit TE from Florida that never did jack **** at the college level. And that fat lazy *** 5* RB from USC that never did jack squat. Then there was the 5* WR from OSU that was more worthless than doge coin on busted hard drive. Who also didn’t do a damn thing at OSU. I know there’s more too, those were just off the top of my head.

Oh yeah, then there’s Trey Palmer and Somare Toure’ (sp?) who both produced at their former schools and… HOLY MONKEY NUTS ON A BARBECUED BISCUIT!!! They were actually good players.

And there have been others. Those two from Alabama- not sure that either of those two played more than a snap or two in any game. There's just been so many. Just think about what that does to the Huskers team culture. This team has been fragile and had very little mental toughness. Then what happens in the off season? We bring in a handful of lagabouts who are still bragging about what they did in high school.

A lot of the posters on here live within the friendly confines of the Nebraka bubble and they have no clue what the public perception is outside of it. Unfortunately, what you posted is the vast majority's take on us

The TE from Georgia/LSU was a starter at LSU and was freshman All-SEC. He was a project but worth it IMO. You take a chance on talent like that.

Agree that taking 4 or 5 star career backups is a failed strategy. I still think FCS is where a couple transfers should come from every year. We have a bunch of really good FCS programs within our radius. Scout them. Raid them.

We will just see how year 2 goes for him when all these transfers and his James Madison players he brought in graduate. He has to do it again but all the players he brings in next year won’t have the familiarity with him as this years team
