We’re saying the same things I said if we finish with 13 wins how would you feel?

let me ask this since it seems you’re on the Pike apologist side and seem to be looking for a reason to bring him back… if we fail to make the tournament next year would you be ready to move on?

because if they do bring him back for ONE MORE year I can’t imagine a scenario where anything less than that is acceptable

Someone saying something positive doesn't necessarily mean they are an "apologist" for Pike. It may just mean they are focused on trying to enjoy their fandom instead of constantly complaining.....or .......it may mean that they realize it will be only a slim chance that Pike is replaced. For some reason many of the obsessive complainers conveniently leave out that it would probably take an incremental $25-$30 Million infusion of capital after this season to extract from Pike in order to satisfy his contract separation package, NIL needed for Talent Infusion and incremental salary to lure and pay a new Coach & staff for next season.

My thoughts are that fans who point out the potential positives realize that Pike staying or leaving is beyond their control and there is only an extremely small chance of him being replaced after the season without some big fish type swooping in and paying for it.

Yes. Want him back, but it’s tourney or bust next season - a miss would be 5 years in a row and that would be unacceptable.

Help me understand how keeping these players makes sense? They are going to win 3-4 conference games amd finish in the bottom 3 or 4 in the conference.

Retain them for what???

Ok add 2 players like Dylan and Ace to this team? Didn’t work out well.

We need 6-7 impact players to start and possibly keep 3-4 off the current roster

Because Pike did it here that way before - point blank. 2018-19 off season. He took a team that lost to Fordham and needed OT to beat a Kenpom 300+ Columbia team - and made them a tourney caliber team the next season despite losing Eugene. We returned only one double digit scorer in Geo but everyone else came back. We added just two transfer pieces - JY and Yeoboa.

That’s “why” and it’s a perfectly fine / acceptable reason considering how big his buyout is. That is, as long as the team shows steady improvement and doesn’t close out going down as a historically bad Eddie Jordan type team.

Sorry, I'm not going to waste my time creating reasons for getting rid of Pike some time in the future. Who cares. I'm just trying to appreciate and enjoy the rest of the season.
You may look at me and say I’m a chronic complainer but I do go to every home game for 10 years the entire pike tenure

I was his biggest defender and fan during the build and even during the Mag injury collapse year and the first truly down season 2 years ago

the blown opportunity last year really soured me and maybe that’s why some of my cynicism exists it’s hard to forgive a once in a lifetime chance thrown at the schools feet and maybe the blame doesn’t fall on him but it belongs somewhere

firing a coach represents organizational failure so I don’t want pike fired but as a fan for all my life it is hard not to be disheartened that the “glory days” feel far away already

It’s not just firing - it’s feeling such an urgent need to do it that you eat a tremendous buy out in the process. Unless we fail to win 3 more games and stop being competitive the rest of the way, this off season is not yet the right time to do it.

And I guess my only other question and we won’t know the answer to this unless we’re on the inside is how much easier/tougher is Zinns job to raise NIL to give us a opportunity to fill out the roster based on Pike staying or going

Appreciate the glass half full approach.

Will agree to disagree and hope your right.

We’d have to raise money to pay for his buy out so you’d have to consider this part of it. You’d also have to assume every player on the current roster would leave and we’d be portal shopping for everyone which would likely be a lot more expensive than shopping for 2-4 key pieces.

To be clear, I never predicted he would get us to the tournament. I was only stating that giving him one more year with proper funding to try to make it happen before canning him is reasonable for the reason I stated. He did in fact, get it done from a similar starting point once before at Rutgers. Point being - we can keep him another year, save a lot of money and the perception of this decision is not even close to a national embarrassment the way it was to keep Ash around in 2019 for example (where it was all but known for certain there was no chance of a turnaround). Having succeeded in this way before is a big distinction. Huge.

Fair point!

At some point we have to leave our battered past an operate like a true Power 4 school.

A lot of what you laid out is fair and specific to “ but it’s Rutgers”. I personally am done with that.

I believe in our school, President, AD facilities, etc.

Pike survives no school after last year .

Rutgers just be great and don’t apologize for anything or to anyone on what needs to be done to do it.
