This is great news. It's an area where the team has been only okay in the past (not close to sanctions, but not near the top), so they should be proud of the improvement.

Women’s basketball’s mark of 989 was boosted by a third consecutive season scoring a 1,000 in 2013-14. The men were ranked No. 6 in the Big Ten while the women were ranked No. 5.

Rutgers is far ahead of the Division I national averages in football (956), men’s basketball (961) and women’s basketball (975), as listed by NCAA.com. The national average for all Division I athletes is 978.

I should be clear - the way APR works, to get to the top requires multiple years of great scores, so it's really a testament to working hard on academics over time, not just in one year.

This is great news! I've been very proud of the ongoing focus on academic excellence by our athletic teams, and I'm especially happy to see that wbball has now risen to the occasion.

Stringer has carried a longer bench in the last few years, which corresponds to the APR rise. Those walk-ons aren't just there for practice purposes.

Guess that's a good thing and helps the team in two ways.

That may be partially true but I don't think it is all of it, considering that the All Academic Big Ten list for women's basketball included Kahleah, Ashli, Shrita as well as Alana. (See link for previous thread)

I guess this year's All Academic team members will contribute to next year's APR, but the point is that some or most of the starters have been good students as well.

Congratulations to the scholar athletes as well as the coaching staff/support staff on the accomplishment.

Go RU!
