Get rid of the Fullback and replace with a third WR like Grant. Most Big Ten teams start a 3 WR like Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State. We are weak at WR and we need a playmaker in this recruiting class.

I actually think we might have a decent defensive backfield. Wharton played well when I watched Rutgers play last year and it's his first year. I assume Austin is decent. Cioffi is always by the ball and Hester was playing his first year. I attribute last year due to soft coverage instructed by the coaches.

Not thrilled with his prediction of Denman and Muller at the tackle spots. Those guys are run blockers first and we are putting in a pass heavy offense.

In spread-option offense you need very athletic guards who can zone block and really move around. They cant just be plodders like you can get away with in a pro set O.

Mueller is starting at Tackle since he been starting there for 2 years already. Most of our OL start at Guard and moved over to tackle the next year,

Didn't West Virginia, under Rodriguez, have a full back who went pro? Dude was a bit of a nut if I remember correctly.

Muller has been at Guard for 3 years and played C this year. Denman was at RT for last two years. Denman's better position may be Guard as he is a step slow at T. Heeman and Applefield are inexperienced, but in limited action at Guard last year they looked fine there. Not sure how they will do at Tackle.

Don't see a true freshman starting at QB ..spread- hybrid spread - no spread - whatever.

I think we may be in for a rough 2 years coming up. It's pretty crazy that our top 4 WR's next year are seniors Hope we have at least a few guys ready in the wings.

The thing, and I see it as a positive, is there's no loyalty to starters. I think the only guaranteed starter on the OL is Muller. The rest should be wide open although I see Miller and Applefield the next two in line after Chris.

I definitely could see the "right" freshman starting at QB. The WR corps needs major help. I do like Flannigan as a receiver but his blocking has kept him on the sidelines.

On Defense I think the guaranteed starters are Hamilton, Lambert, Longa, and Wharton. Wilkins is likely in that group too. Not sold on Turay as an every down DE. Again, I'm sure Ash will pick who he feels is best in his system. There could be moves none of us see coming right now. Maybe Clayton to LB a la K Greene?

Offense is underwhelming in reality except for Martin and Hicks. D backs and DL look promising if healthy. LB needs help.

Deonte Roberts will lock down a starting job - he's a good weight room season away from kicking off a nice career.
cioffi can not play at the level he has been at and expect to start. He is out of position way too often on run fits. He has to step up or a guy like saquan Hampton will pass him up.
Excited to see the improvements Wharton, Austin and adams make this off season. Playing cb as undersized freshman is very difficult.

Dailey? Will he be paroled by then? :sunglasses:

tQUOTE="RUbanks, post: 1191614, member: 5144"]Okay, different circumstances obviously. and Walker didn't start from Day 1, we're not getting a 5-star recruit, etc.[/QUOTE]

I understand but another way to look at it is RU doesn't exactly have any QB who is a slam dunk on the roster. I'm thinking a freshman has a better chance with a new HC who'll want "his guy" to run a new system.

It's not the easiest decision to make but I'm guessing we all want a HC who's willing to think outside the box and go with his gut rather than sticking with the status quo, conservative approach we had for the past few years.

That's one of the great things about have a new coaching staff....no favoritism just because you are an upperclassmen, the best players will start. When Ash steps in to coach, there are ZERO players on the Depth Chart.

Agree with the Cioffi assessment. If he's starting next year, we have serious problems.

Agree... Roberts looked terrific during his playing time during the Army game. From my view in the stands he was all over the field, see him as a starting LB next year. Hester and Hampton should be the starting Safeties. Anthony C. has the heart and drive but is not talented enough to be in the Secondary ( got burned way too many times). Wharton is a lock down CB. The other CB spot is wide open. Austin has a long, long way to go.
