Much better setup of seating behind the baskets. Barely any room from first row of seats to the baseline. Cheerleaders don’t have much room to move.

Why does the RAC need 15 feet between student section and the baseline? The atmosphere would be much better with those seats closer to the court.

This has been a pet peeve of mine since they moved the seats back about 15 or 20 years ago.

The cheerleaders need the room, plus you have some seats for special needs and floor seats. There is not another inch to spare over there.

I thought they did it because of new fire/crowd control codes given where the exits are on that end? I.e. they didnt have a choice.
What’s the fire code like at Cameron Indoor?

Different state?

There are many different possible reasons - different state/ different rules, maybe there were renovations at the RAC that kicked in new rules (where maybe gambel and Cameron remain “grandfathered”?), maybe the layouts are just different (where having the stands for the student section close to the court at the RAC created a pinch-point near the exits and the layouts at gamble and Cameron just don’t create the same problem), and lastly maybe the code guys near gamble and Cameron look the other way. All the above could be true

It was good enough and safe for decades. Like 118 just bad decisions. If I recall correctly they took away the seats the year after the silly UMAss protest. Let student sit at half court and then took away all the student seats because student protested at half court. Could have nipped at the bud. Heard one of the cheerleader coaches made a power play. Mulcahy no guts to say no.
