Was it strategy or execution?

Those three awful possessions where we didn't even get a shot up definitely had to go in the execution column.

Hello! That's goofy. We got outrebounded 34-22. That's not a strategy problem.

Agreed. I just went back and watched it. We were throwing up junk. I have no idea what the players were even trying to to there but that was bad. They weren't even hitting the rim on some of those so-called shots.

What's goofy is that while being outrebounded all game, we had the lead with 4 mins to go and got way too conservative.

I think it was both. The strategy of switching screens with Booker ending up defending Kaminsky was really bad. At the same time, the multiple shot clock violations go to really poor execution. Throw in the terrible job by the refs, and there you had a recipe for disaster...

It WAS both. but there is no excuse for our 3 point shooters not to take a few more than they did late. It might have made all the difference. that last drive to get the ball to Karl- THAT should have been execution of a three. IT WASNT- big mistake.

Both. Switching on every screen has been horrible all year. Wisconsin was just the first team to make UK consistently pay for it. The execution was clesrly lacking on those fateful 3 possessions. I watched the replay last night and they were definitely trying to go to KAT. Wisconsin did a good job of tsking him away, and there was no counter action. One possession KAT got the ball on the box and had a decent look in the lane but was stripped down low by Kaminsky. That led to Lyles throwing up a forced shot that resulted in a shot clock violation.

How could we have the best defense in modern history if our approach to something as simple as defending screens is horrible? How can it have been horrible all year if no one consistently made us pay for it?

To quote Calapari "scared money don't make no money." Cal was scared, went into stall ball and the players didn't execute. Of course, my argument is when you start telling players to hold the ball, it makes it harder for players to execute. UK had Wisky on the ropes, quit attacking and gave them a breather at the same time. Cal has never changed on that.

Who do you think told them not to throw anything up until 3 seconds left on the shot clocks? NO, they didn't execute, but they shouldn't have had to with no time for even a rebound, that was strategy, and when they couldn't execute COACH SHOULD HAVE CHANGED THE STRATEGY.

It's quite easy actually. When you play a bunch of garbage teams that don't try to execute outside of "let our guards go one on one with 7 footers" it can look good. ND executed last weekend, but then reverted back in crunch time. Wisconsin excecuted each and every time they saw the mismatch of little on big. UK finally started hedging, but how many baskets did Kaminsky and Dekker get before they did?
