Not good to here. He coached a relatively short time compared to today's standards. I also feel he is one of the most underrated coaches of all time. He really put Duke on the national map as far as a national power. Growing up I always loved his name. "Vic Bubas" had a certain ring to it. With all due respect to Waters, McGeachy and Foster how wonderful it would have been for Bubas to have stayed a little longer and passed the torch to Coach K. And while I'm sure he stayed loyal to Duke until he passed he stayed out of the lime light and let whoever the Duke Coach was do his thing. Great man and coach. Funny thing. I've been thinking about him lately and had thought about a thread about him.OFC

Bubas coached at Duke when my uncle was a student there. To this day, he says Bubas was Duke before K was Duke.

Think about it....little known Vic swiped Heyman from under McGuire’s nose and went into Kentucky and stole Mullins from Rupp. That was major at the time.

Bubas clearly had Nike money!

I obviously never seen him or remember him coaching at Duke, but read a lot of books about the program and of his days as the coach. I hate he never got a championship at Duke but he had some great teams.

Such a sad day for the Duke old-timers here. Even though Harold Bradley enjoyed some success before Bubas, Vic was the one that put Duke basketball on the map. Had he not retired early I feel that our first NCAA title would have come well before 1991.

Loved Bubas!

RIP Coach!

During a span of 7 years Bubas took Duke to the final 4 three times. dean smith and Coach K are tied with the most ACC championships with 13 each which is impressive for both. OFC
