Rose took one away there in the first. Anybody know why Mac was talking to the umpire after that homerun?

No clue. Best guess is the Va Tech players act like it’s game 7 of the World Series as they make their trot around the bases. Also, Tech seems to be able to celebrate a home run outside of their dugout while UofL has to retreat to inside the dugout.

Kind of what I was thinking. Our team needs to exhibit a ton more grit today to get back in this one.

This has been a very sub-par weekend for the Cards. Reminds me of the last two seasons. Multiple runners left on base in the first two innings. Poor base running costs the team a run. Unfortunately a terrible outing for Peter. George is very pedestrian defensively at catcher. He can’t block anything.
Here is what grinds my gears. I am sure WE could all tell Peter had just lost it. Hit two guys in a row and then walks a guy. #1 It took forever for Williams to go out and talk to Peter. Why? #2 Why does it take 30 damn minutes to get a guy warm to replace Peter? That is nothing unusual as that is out MO - leave pitchers in Too dang long. Geez, Peter was a dead man walking and was just left out there. Blows my mind.

Can't say for sure but the way Neighbors went to cover 2nd base I think Dan was trying to appeal a "little league" he missed the bag.

Look no disrespect but not very many coaches want to pull their starters in the 2nd inning. Plus we have already used 9 pitchers in this series. You tend to give your starter a little more leeway. Besides since it is early you have to have confidence in our offense to make some kind of comeback. We scored 12 runs yesterday. I do have a concern with Baker behind the plate though.

They have a very small margin for error. The staff while better it isn’t great. Having to score 6-7-8-9 every weekend game is pretty tough. You may get away with it on occasion but not every weekend.

My guess is they will really struggle on the road.

Yes Sean, better on paper but hardly impressive getting there outside of their determination to battle from behind.

Just not enough clutch hitting, bunting, baserunning and pitching. 😒

Well, didn’t get run ruled, but Tech took the series with a decisive 11-4 win today. Gave up 24 runs in the 3-game series … not a good result for the good guys.

A very poor performance today, no question. But, today was the exception. Cards have been playing good ball. Just goes to show you got to bring it every game, and that winning on the road in the ACC is tough.

They’ll bounce back.

We're erratic as hell. Really good at times, gritty but don't play clean a lot of the time. Agree we can't play our way into the hole we have in recent past. It's really all the little things early in the game that prevent us from having an early lead.

Sean Moth didn't mince words calling the effort pathetic, appalling and embarrassing among other things.

I ran some errands around the end of the third yesterday. I've never heard Moth talk like that about the team. His voice wasn't angry. It was the same Moth-esque delivery, but he was definitely letting the team have it. And, deservedly so. That was really bad baseball. Very strange.

Yeah,we're only hoping for something, anything to light a fire before it gets to where we were last season. All of these early conference games mean something.

Even though I know who the captains are,I've yet to figure out who the leaders are, outside of Rose. I'm not panicking yet but I am waiting for others to emerge as leaders, either on the field or in the bullpen.

They should all be leaders. I realize we have a lot of freshmen but shouldn't matter.
