Well Purdue and Oregon (neutral court) beat Alabama... They are 19-3. The problem I have with this logic is that you lump a whole conference in one catagory and I think you and most media are ridiculous for not thinking the Big 10 has a team that can win it.

Any team can get hot, and by your logic if Alabama was in the Big 10 they couldn't win it either cause they are 1-2 in Big 10 play.

this is a bit tangential to your post, but not entirely unrelated:

the biggest problem with cbb is block scheduling

IMO December should be a conference schedule month and Jan or Feb should be non-con

this way, "strength of conference", which weighs heavily in every metric, wouldn't be locked in by January 1st and we can see which teams/conferences are getting better as the season goes along

the SEC had a good Nov/Dec and now is projected to set an NCAA tourney record for number of bids while the Big East, for example, will be lucky to get 4 teams in

probably a little harder to do with cfb scheduling, however.

Like football, SEC basketball is being glorified by their personal network since the football teams stunk it up during the bowl season. March Madness will tell the real story, and even if they stink it up then too, it'll all be soon forgotten and glorifying SEC football will begin again. Rinse repeat.
