fact is there might not be that many choices. Hurley is at the top of heap compared to hiring Jay Williams. Pat and Danny lets get this done

Archie Miller is not coming..he can have a pick of the litter of jobs. Rutgers is a poorly perceived job and he can stay at Dayton until the time is right

Is Rutgers becoming Seton Hall South?
My first is Miller from Dayton and my second is Lonergan GW
They have to want to come.....putting your career on hold to build Rutgers from scratch over next 5 years is worthwhile if you want to stay longer .. Hurley fits that picture, don't think these guys end game is Rutgers....

What you have to realize is that Rutgers has absolutely no basketball tradition. I hate to be negative but any up and coming coach with prospects will not take this job unless they have a personal reason to take it. The fact that we are in a P 5 conference will have zero bearing on a coach taking this job. While I am not sure Hurley is a great coach, he has reasons for coming back - 1) its New Jersey, 2) Pat Hobbs. Also, Hurley was pretty popular with the fans as an assistant while he was here. As far as becoming Seton Hall South, look where they are at and where we are at. Maybe that's not such a bad thing.

So does he.

I don't want a guy who sees $$$$ first and an attitude of "Yeah, I'll give it a shot."

If he is the guy I hope he is extremely successful and tells us the truth in the opening presser...it will take time but with the promised support we're gonna get it done.

I think a lot of us could get on board hearing something like that.

I think a lot of people have no idea what it takes to compete at the highest levels of college athletics, since we've never really done it, at least in the modern, big money era. To use a football analogy, fans want RU to be Princeton Sun-Fri and Alabama on Saturday. That's just not realistic. For a school like Rutgers there needs to a happy median between the 2. Where that middle ground lies depends on your point of view. If you don't like Hurley and don't want him as coach, fine. But the next John Wooden is not walking in that door, here or anywhere else.

I see Hurley wanting to come and loving the Jersey B1G atmosphere he can create. He also knows Jersey so he's going to want commitment and guarantees - he would be insanely stupid otherwise. We fired HOF alumni coach who's third year was decimated with injuries. He will want locked in money. Our facilities are embarrassing, you know he's going to add clauses about that. Jordan wanted to come hear to help, anyone else will want to come here if the opportunity is right.

Some people have trouble grasping the fact that we're basically Oregon St. East with more stink on us and much more visibility.
How dare you insult the Beavs! They beat Oregon, Utah, UCLA, USC, Washington this season and had Gary Payton II win PAC-12 defensive player of the year. We should only be as bad as them.

dont get why you are saying he is meh about the job
Until I am wowed at his introductory press conference this is the vibe I have had on this guy for a quite sometime.

And I want to be wowed and wrong in the worst (best? lol) way possible.

I think we all share your sentiment to a large degree. No matter who each of us wants as the next coach (or don't want) we all will support the new coach and we want them to succeed in the worst way. All this other stuff makes for good message board banter while we wait for the powers that be to make the decisions.

I would rather have Lonergan, but I doubt he would leave GW. Hurley would be a splashy move though. I'm just surprised Hobbs hasn't considered Pikiell, Masiello, or Dooley.

how do you know he hasn't?

You have to think he's been looking for a coach for at least a month now, if not longer.

From nj.com

"I'm continuing to work through the first round of interviews and hope to have that completed the next few days," Hobbs said. He added that, while the process is moving quickly, no hire is imminent.

That from today, Choppin? If so, Hurley's agent must be working overtime flacking his guy.

The article just went up on nj.com in the last hour.
Thanks! hmmmm....... Could be that he is interviewing maybe three or four guys, Hurley being one of them, and Hurley's agent is pushing this like mad to the press to make him seem inevitable. Orrrrrr, he's Hobbs' first choice and they are floating trial balloons to see how much negative press will come with Hurley's behaviour issues. Orrrrr, and this is the real conspiracy theory -- they are doing the first round of interviews and they hope to have that part done in the next couple of days.

maybe because the vibe of the former ADs were to either crap on or ignore basketball, no wonder he didnt trust RU

Why should any of us care about your vibe about a HC for that matter? If you trust in Hobbs and this is the guy he wanted to interview first I think that says a lot about how Hobbs feels.
When he says who the actual guy is, I will.

Again, have I missed something?

Yes Hurley's one of the top two targets. Do you trust Hobbs' judgement? Because that's proof that Hobbs likes what he sees in Hurley.

Rhode Island has a top 25caliber team next season. Rutgers hasn't been in the top 25 since ....?
