Small forward Jonathan Laurent[/B] was the top 2015 prospect at the Hoop Exchange Player Showdown in Orlando, Florida this past weekend where he told 247Sports that Rutgers was recruiting him the hardest.
6-6, 200-pounds out of Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips High School, Laurent said he is in talks with Rutgers on taking an official visit. The Scarlet Knights have yet to offer the three-star prospect.
Laurent also said that Maryland, Missouri and West Virginia have recently been in contact. Offers previously came in from Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and UCF.http://247sports.com/Bolt/Laurent-looking-at-Rutgers-35963608

Maybe the staff isn't convinced he is worth offering. If this is the case absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Maybe:
- they are waiting for him to visit first
- need to assess his academics to assure he will be eligible

Or, maybe, RU has given Freeman an absolute decision date and waiting on his response. Until then, RU is recruiting Laurent and/or others without actually offering.

Laurent has the grades as does Charles Minlend Jr., whose father played at St. John's....both are high IQ and good academic kids.....Laurent is at the same HS as football verbal Jon Pollock and is looking forward to an offer coming.....As of today, if RU offered, I believe he would accept quickly.

Efforts have been pushed forward for the longest with Freeman, so I believe until he comes off the board, Laurent would have to wait and see what happens.

Strong rebounder/defender and athletic. Body similar to Kone, but with more spring and bounce. Think he can contribute down the road, but I would look for steps forward with Foreman and Etou with Diallo, before asking or expecting a Laurent to jump up into a rotational spot.....We also have to sort out what the status is with Kejuan Johnson, who has missed most of the season with a foot injury.

If there are departures (which seemingly happens at every program each spring), then perhaps a reshuffle occurs where a Laurent gets an offer, while potentially landing a Freeman, who would be a JUCO here for 2 seasons.

At first I told Aggs I didn't know if this kid could effect the game at this level. Now I think that he could play a role. He had a great game against on of the best teams in the country. Seems like a good kid with a high motor and enjoys defending.

Is he the best we are looking at ? Probably not. Is he the best that seems like he would actually come? I think so. Still wan a high iq player with some decent skills. Larent can play basketball though. High ceiling type of player and while not exactly a project like Shaq, still has some skills that need working on. I am a fan though.

I like Laurent, but prefer Minlend, Jr. because he scores the ball from all areas. And we need scorers.

He wants a Rutgers offer really badly and told me that Coach Vetrone called him during the event. No visit is scheduled yet but could be soon as his Spring Break is coming up.

Also, he wasn't the top 2015 prospect at the event, 5-star McDonald's AA SG Antonio Blakeney was there too.

My write-up on the event is below.
