It's been a while since I've been to DNF, when did they build this?

When I saw it on a previous thread I thought "OK, they're gonna extend that so it looks the same on both sides of the center field wall when standing at home plate", but from these pics, it appears to be complete.

Can we move the Juntion Christmas Tree in front of this thing?

On that note - has there been any artist renderings of what this is supposed to look like once finished? I have not paid any attention to what's going on in LFL or outfield area lately. I assume the plan is to build another structure in left-center, or just add more to the structure that is already there. Regardless, I have trouble visualizing anything sharp looking using that metal warehouse siding.

Imagine how bad that thing is gonna sound if and when someone hits a homerun off of that ugly SOB. Then it will get dented and be even uglier than it is now, if that is even possible!

It was put for the "hitter's backdrop." Why the hell don't we just tear it down? I would have thought Polk would have done this considering how bad our hitting was for a while there.

Not being able to see the ball well could be a huge advantage for us. We would be used to it, relatively speaking, while the other team would barely be able to see the ball.

This has got to be the worst architectural decision MState has made since the Henry Hunter Center, or whatever it's called.

I am speechless.

That is so Bush League it is not even funny.. I agree with Evergreen idea ( Southern Magnolias can mature out about 50 Ft. ) Hell you could yank some nice specimens out of Merediths House. Survey says " F " on Aesthetics.

Is that going to be the new center field wall? Please tell me that isn't going to be in our park this spring.

Like I said in the other thread, if a 90+ fastball is that far right, it ain't going to hit anything but the back stop (about half way between home plate and the 1st base dugout.

I have stood at home plate and hit at DNF back when the center field wall was much small than the existing one. The Shira building or anything else was never in your field of vision (when focused on the pitcher and his release point). The LT building wasn't there at that time but still. Point remains that the Shira building was just left of the wall and it never affected me.

Look at most MLB stadiums. The batter's eye is usually about the size of our current center field wall. Then there are fans on either size wearing an asortment of colors. That doens't affect them. This was a total over reaction by someone to build that thing.

but is there a chance that, perhaps, this isn't the final product and that something is already planned to make it all look better?

Dude,

Did y'all ever go shoot out the light that was above the green monster at CHS? My fresh/soph years the upperclassman would complain about the parking lot light that you see could over the greeen monster. Of course, my class did not worry about it as we were so damn good anyway. Hahaha.
I heard somewhere a team or two after 90 shoot the thing out.

If the setting sun is creating a glare off the windows, that could be distracting. But still....put a black screen over windows instead.

I don't have photoshop, but I just whipped this together on Paint. Not perfectly symmetrical but you get the idea.

Point being, if they carried it over to be one giant wall, it would much better. Toss some trees in front of it and you may have something serviceable. Would still look like ****, but not a big steaming pile of **** as it is now.

Can we really not do like Miami and just put a screen behind the cf wall? Not trying to be too harsh but this green wall is ridiculous.Whomever approved this obviously had no idea it would end up looking like this, I hope.

and it's not so much the background as it is the glare off the academic center. It's hard to look at that thing if the sun is hitting it from the west and I was there in Nov - no telling what's like in late May. Something had to be done to protect the hitters and keep fans from going blind.

However, tackling this problem by building the green monstrocity is baffling. I understand that there is a product on the market called paint that might have been of some use.

A net would have made sense, but what probably happened was the contractor had extra roofing material left over because he over-purchased. Trying to figure out how to save his ***, he comes up with this idea and tells the University that normally something like this would cost $20k, but since they have been so good to him he will do it for $10k.

If this piece of **** looks like that in the spring I will be pissed. They can put some sort of tall (very tall) plant material in front of it to make it look more aesthetically pleasing. Hell I'm a Landscape Architect. Give me 1000 bucks and I'll have it looking good in no time. Take it up with the LA department and somebody might do it for free.

engineering and architecture university shouldn't someone have picked up on that little problem before hand? Seeing as the sun has been rising and setting pretty much the same way for what ah ah about 10,000 years.

and blind architects, and dyslexic land planners. I think we need a SPS action report to get to the bottom of this now. We need to have heads rolling!!! Meanwhile, Ole Miss' stadium looks great. Leave it to us, to screw up the one thing we could hang our hat on. I mean, serioulsy, we could have at least strung up a screen mesh or something.

If not done yet, this could be a great fark off! BMT, any ideas?
