Under 40, Under 30

Pikiell goals on the defensive end. Hold the opponent under 40% overall shooting and under 30% on 3 point shooting. Setting aggressive goals is great and guys will bust their butts to meet them.

Pikiell also mentioned in his presser that they have not yet gotten into any full court press....so that look is still coming. The roster sets up nicely for pressure with the fast backcourt and athleticism of guys like Thiam, Laurent and Freeman. I would not expect any press against small DePaul....probably during the next stretch of home OCC's opponents.

I said this before and I will say it again. This team can only get better as they learn to play together. Their shooting will improve as their offense get into a more natural rhythm. Their depth will allow for more pressure and we can wear people down. I am not over estimating or expecting a 20 win season but a significant improvement over last year (maybe 500 or close) is IMHO possible.

It's so refreshing that our coach stresses defense. What a concept.

I cannot wait to see a full court press with Thiam at the top guarding the in-bound pass, and Sa hanging back in the paint waiting to block shots.

Any Kenpom users here? Where would U-40 and U-30 rank ?

UPDATE:

** Last year only two teams in the Big 10 were U-40% for overall defensive FG% - MSU and Purdue.

** Last year, no team in the Big 10 was U-30% for 3 point defense FG%. The best was MSU at 31%.

These are really aggressive goals by Pikiell...stretch objectives. But, that's a good thing.
