And way better than the gut punch of a close, ugly loss. NU fans only had to bite their nails for a few minutes in the 4th Q Saturday, rather than chewing them to the nub and then watching NU lose on a 4th down TD with less than 2 minutes remaining.

I appreciate a coach who can admit that we are far from good. Ugly is the right word. We fumble, we throw interceptions, we make dumb mistakes....but we have 5 wins and that's saying something after all of these years.

I feel like these wins that we describe as "Ugly" are a necessary step in the progression of the program. These games have all of the benefits of a loss, without actually having to suffer a loss. Instead, we get a win - but plenty of obvious things that need to be addressed. That should help keep the team focused on getting better every week, rather than thinking they have everything figured out and they only need to show up to win.

Just think of how good we can be if we played average on offense and had a 0 net turnover margin. This team can be pretty good.
