Pretty much - how many players can you lose and still be at your best?Just awful. How does Buffalo have better players than us? Very poor performance by us. I guess the loss of 4 players from the team took its toll. 5 if you count KK. Oh and no Stringer. Is there a curse on our program?
It was the type of season that was better than some ( before the season) claimed it would be.Pretty much - how many players can you lose and still be at your best?
Until I saw the game I didn't know Calhoun quit.
I did not - contrary to some other comments - think their performance was particularly awful. Buffalo was a "dangerous" opponent - it was really our defense that was awful, we scored over 70 which historically would have given us the win.
This was certainly not a bad season, especially both given where they were 2 years ago and also given the personnel issues that plagued the season. While some of the actual games we lost were ugly, the truth of the matter is we would have had a better seed if 1 or 2 of our losses had been wins (any of them, none were "that" bad in a seeding sense) and even more so, if we could have beaten either Drake or Gonzaga to give us another "signature" win. That said, an NCAA win would have been excellent for the future of the program.
Just saw the official "why she left" - put in plain English, it sounds like she is planning on trying for the WNBA and didn't want to risk injury. The statement was "prepare for the next phase of my life" or something like that.Calhoun quit the team earlier this week
What a joke
Has anyone ever heard of a player quitting an NCAA team the week before the opening round?
How do you look at yourself in the mirror?
Unless it was something crazy that made her feel obligated to quit - than how can the person responsible look THEMSELVES in the mirror?
And what do her teammates say to her next time they see each other?

Something that lots of football players do and everyone is ok with it. Something PTI thought the Duke men's star should do - not return from his injury just sit it out.
While there is a lot more money on the men's side, who knows what her situation is. Prince left a whole season on the table to go make some money.
They also had 5 seniors and 2 juniors on their roster. The worst part is Buffalo has 7 freshmen on its roster, and we lose a boatload of players to graduation. I fear what next year will be like.
I understand that you are a passionate supporter of this team.At the same time your last comment regarding winning it all is ridiculous.Fans knew this was a flawed team as the problems occurred on and off the court. There is no excuse, however, for the poor defensive performance against a 10th seed opponent.Rutgers should have won this game by double digits after scoring 70 points .It was the type of season that was better than some ( before the season) claimed it would be.
Far worse than some felt it was during its great run during the season.
Not the sky is falling season some cried during a losing streak.
Not a bunch of criminals that some implied before a player had the charges dismissed after ( sadly) being dismissed from the program
But a season that seen a lot of things that might destroy a program being overcome to reach the NCAA tourney.
The showing against Buffalo wasn't a good one, but the road to Storrs was a hard one and the team just wasn't good enough to overcome that and the flaws that need to be addressed in the off-season.
I'm not happy with the loss, but can look with pride on this team because of the roadblocks it faced and it overcoming them to make the Dance. Even if it lost in the first round there is for many RU WBB fans a hope for better times next season and a longer dance card.
But for some, nothing is good enough and if RU doesn't win it all , it was a bad season.

yes last comment was a little overboard, but there are those who know this program overcome some adversity refuse to admit that and always are looking for something to complain about even after wins.I understand that you are a passionate supporter of this team.At the same time your last comment regarding winning it all is ridiculous.Fans knew this was a flawed team as the problems occurred on and off the court. There is no excuse, however, for the poor defensive performance against a 10th seed opponent.Rutgers should have won this game by double digits after scoring 70 points .
They also had 5 seniors and 2 juniors on their roster.
Jones (s) , Hemphill (j),Dillard (s) & Wilkins(s) put in the most minutes along with the sophomore Hall .
RU had Zipp a freshman , Arella a soph & Tekia a soph play the most minutes on the floor along with 2 seniors Stasha and Charise.
Experience was on Buffalo's side, but even that doesn't excuse RU losing like it did.
Most of the players Rutgers are losing have replacements ready to take over.
Replacing Carey is the problem to worry about.
I'm hoping Maroi is ready to take Stasha's place in as a freshman and it will be a smooth transition.
CVS is a HOF coach and has done great things here and no one can deny that. Looking back over the years all our teams have two things in common - defense is the strong point and offense is the weak point. As the women's game has evolved and become more athletic and more offense oriented this has become more of an issue. We have heard for number of years that CVS is going to change her philosophy and while she may be trying, I don't know if we have seen an impactful difference.
There comes a point, no matter the career, when it's time to step aside. Given her age and new health issues perhaps it is time for a graceful exit and fond farewell and expression of thanks from the RU community. Just an opinion.
Sorry you feel the need to stoop to name calling.Fortunately our AD doesn’t pay attention to dopey fans.
42 wins in 2 years. Still one of the best recruiters in the country, that plays in an antiquated arena , with a crappy fan base.
I've see Carey have good games, but I've also seen her miss too many easy buckets under the basket andThey also had 5 seniors and 2 juniors on their roster.

I am not sure there is a direct correlation between the 2018 NJ Taxes I just filed and the Athletic Scholarships that students receive, but how does Calhoun come to Rutgers (get another degree) and just walk away like this? That is a pathetic excuse to quit on your team
WNBA doesn't make any money
Kick her out of school

She is not one of the best recruiters in the country and that is why we have had to rely on JUCO's and for many of the past few years we have not even had a full squad of scholarship players. She also doesn't develop alot of those so called 5 star players. As Loyal said now would be a great time for her to make a graceful record. She has done wonderful and great things here but if you consider paying her one of the top salaries in the country and making the first round of the NCAA's a success well then I guess she is the coach for you. If I am paying what she is getting paid than nothing less than the sweet sixteen would be a success to me.Fortunately our AD doesn’t pay attention to dopey fans.

we have not had a dominant go-to player in years, we tend to get fast school yard type players. very rare can CVS lure a good shooter here because of her mindset of pressing defenses, that game went out years agoJust awful. Wait...someone QUIT the team before our NCAA tournament appearance? SMDH
I’d love to hear the defenders on this one.
Not picking on you specifically but we heard this exact same comment last year “Tyler is gone; where is the scoring going to come from?” We found out that it was not as dismal as many thought it would be. These same folks are criticizing an NCAA appearance when they were predicting that we wouldn’t have even a .500 record. Guess you need to criticize something when you’re wrong. The worst part is Buffalo has 7 freshmen on its roster, and we lose a boatload of players to graduation. I fear what next year will be like.

Yes, it was Sierra Calhoun, the graduate transfer from Ohio State. Apparently she wants to focus on her future basketball career, ideally in the WNBA. Good luck with that, based on her stats this year. But you never know. Stranger things have happened.
Her personal choice and things like that are happening in college sports today.Wait...someone QUIT the team before our NCAA tournament appearance? SMDH

Not a nice thing for the team, but sometimes [poop]
happens that the team members and coaching staff can't do nothing about.
A player deciding to transfer or move on to a different phase in their lives might be a decision
that can't be changed and not an indication something is wrong with the program.
