(Sun) 1 p.m. vs Maine @ XL Center- TV: SNY

Maine plays a cutting, deliberate offense with their new head coach, who used to be their WBB coach. It worked well vs. #7 Virginia in their last game holding them to 46 points. Problem was Maine only scored 26.

I am in Florida on vacation, but I brought my laptop and it looks like I will be able to watch the game on SNY thanks to having a YouTube TV account. I just booted up and they were showing some Mets Classic game from 1988 on SNY, so I assume I will be able to watch the UConn-Maine game live tomorrow and am planning on it.

I am hoping UConn speeds Maine up rather than having Maine slow them down. Good defensive pressure can do that sometimes.

Vegas Insider line right now is UConn -20.5. You need to get the game sped up a bit to cover that spread.

ESPN Matchup predictor says 95.7% UConn chance to win vs. 4.3% Maine chance to win

Tough line in a slowdown game- over/under looks like a steal, considering the 72 pts the last time out from 2 teams vs. Virginia
Vegas- Maine vs Connecticut ( -20½ ) O/U-130

Watching the pregame show on SNY in a hotel
room in Bradenton, Florida. Gotta love You Tube TV! Streaming rules!

Not a pretty first half- 31% FGs, struggling to get clean inside shots, and essentially even on the boards (-1) is not what you want vs. Maine.

Carlton has looked soft inside actually most of the year. He needs to step it up. He is playing smaller than his size.

Hurley yelped at the team to take it to the hole like men and Brendan Adams has just answered that call! Adams has 9 scrappy points off the bench so far.

The depth and pressure is taking its toll on Maine. 20 TOs already, UConn has 11 steals. Maine is playing without its starting PG and it’s showing now.

UConn forced 28 TOs while committing only 8, but one negative stat is that Maine blocked 9 UConn shots to only 2 blocks for UConn. It really should be the other way around and this is a sign of too many balls being taken weakly to the rim. UConn has to do better than this. Overall solid defensive effort but the offensive attack of the rim has to improve.

I though it was the best game of the year for AG....was a bull dog on the ball to make it tough on the back door passes, former PC HC Tim Welsh on SNY said he still needs to stop with the 3's unless he's wide open, but I saw a huge improvement early in the game where he made the extra pass and got the ball back for better looks and hit em'..... + nice guy to learn from:

Game changer after Polley made that 3 to put them up 8 in the 2nd.......DH still wasn't happy and went ballistic during the time out because he wasn't getting the effort he wanted. It seemed like the 5 on the court led by Adams went off right after that...and created the run that closed it out . It's big difference when you have a bench that isn't comatose like the last regime who would've just sat there and it would of been a 5 point game with a few minutes to go.
Like DH said post game:.... to many guys had so so games, played weak at the rim and the offense is still a work in progress. But I'll take a 24 point win and an unhappy coach, rather than a clueless one (of how to turn things around) after he loses to Wagner and Northeastern.

64-40 -Box Score
- Maine scored 16 in the 2nd

UConn covers and is now 6-1 against the spread.
Also as I said above... the under @ 130 points was the easiest bet of the day the way Maine grinds out the clock....I guess after the 46-26 loss to #7 Virginia.......Maine is an offensive powerhouse by scoring 40. ;)

Josh looked like he had to much turkey.....What did Hurley call it in practice last year ?.... " Josh that is some zombie sh#t right there !" .... luckily the D took over ( 13 steals/ forced 28 TO's) and won this game.

This is one big difference from the last few years- the bench is providing significant contributions. Today UConn played without Sid Wilson and was only 9 deep, but they still looked like a team with very legit depth that can use the depth to wear down many teams. Especially playing the defense they are playing, forcing 28 TOs and holding Maine to 35% FGs.

I like that on a day where we stunk, we held the other team to 40. And 29 over like the last 36 minutes. That’s the way it should be,

A real positive is that even without Sid Wilson, nobody played more than 26 minutes today. Brendan Adams and Tyler Polley each played 26 minutes and Akok also played 26. Akok and Bouknight led the team with 5 rebounds each, however UConn was outrebounded by 5 by Maine.

Carlton had 2 points and 3 rebounds in a feeble performance. He has not played as well as I expected after the way he finished last season. UConn has to get him the ball where he can do something with it. Tim Welsh thinks he isn’t working to get better post position, and when he does get the ball in scoring positions, he doesn’t go up strong with it (nor does Polley). For this team to continue to develop they need to get Carlton going.

The second half energy was SO GOOD. That is the turnaround we never saw with Ollie.....so it is so refreshing to see DH knows what to do and they respond.

Carlton needs to grow the heck up man......wow.

The most embarrassing part of the whole day and DH agrees is that we cant finish around the rim. 9 blocks by Maine?

The 9-2 blocks stat in favor of Maine was the single biggest statistical concern from this game. One of those Maine blocks was on one of the walk-ons who came in at the end, so I will call it 8-2 to be real but that stat should be the other way around. The weakness at the rim has to be addressed. Iona is next on Wednesday and they have a better team than Maine and they are capable of giving UConn a very good game. They are probably similar in talent level to Buffalo. Picked to win the MAAC and they have 3 guys who are All-MAAC. Take it to the rim strong!
