Other than a 44 point loss at Houston and a 20 point loss at USF, ECU has been very competitive in all its AAC games. They beat Cincy and Providence at home. I am thinking, looking at their schedule and results, that UConn should beat them by 10-15 points.

One thing that stands out in their stats is their terrible 3 point shooting - a moose ball sucking 26% as a team. With that kind of a number I would not be surprised to see some kind of zone or matchup zone that dares ECU to shoot from the perimeter. They are also a poor FT shooting team (67%).

He looked like he was laboring just to move around with that knee brace, but will MD get more PT going forward ?

UConn shouldn’t need AG this game. They will need him the next two at Temple and Memphis. UConn needs to win today and split the next two on the road.

Did any of you guys see Vital rip away a rebound from Carlton? I don’t think either guy realized he was fighting a teammate for the board. Carlton seemed to relent when he recognized Vital- I don’t think he should have. Should have tore it away from Vital.

Sid Wilson has made two 3s today! I hadn’t seen this stroke previously. If he keeps this up he will send Polley to the bench.

What’s up with Jalen Adams? He is benched with 0 points on 0-6 yet the team looks better without him playing Smith at PG and Vital at SG. Adams has had 3-4 no show games this year and it looks like this one is another. Hurley isn’t playing him, not sure if he is hurt?

This was a very very satisfying win today, and I am very proud of how UConn played. Carlton with this game. Wow! 20 points, 16 boards and 3 blocks and domination. Only thing he didn’t do was rip a board away from Vital. I don’t recall the last time a UConn player had 16 boards in a game. It’s awesome!!! I realize he isn’t playing against a great team or huge bodies but this game is a HUGE step forward for him. He is looking more and more confident and behaving like he rules the paint. All he has to do is start doing it against the heavyweight teams.

Wilson and Polley both played great today and were major contributors. Sid is coming on strong! Great activity without the ball cutting to the hoop earned him two great throw downs!

Carlton getting 16 boards in a game is a great accomplishment and it is exactly what UConn needs! Did Drummond ever have 16 boards in a game at UConn? Get Josh some help and this team can compete with anyone in the AAC!

No Jalen....no AG.... no problem!!!! You saw a glimpse of the future today and it looks good. Thanks Danny Hurley for coaching these kids!!!!

UConn whipped ECU on the boards 44-25. Cant even remember last time UConn was +19 on anyone although ECU came in -6.2

In addition to the Carlton work:

Vital- 18 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 0 turnovers
Wilson - 12 points, 5-5 FGs, 2 3s, 2 dunks on good movement WOB
Polley- 13 points, 5-8 FGs

The game recap I read said that Hurley and Jalen exchanged words after Hurley pulled Jalen out early in the second half. Actually that might have been Hurley’s best move of the game. Was anyone at the game and close enough to see what happened? This wouldn’t be the first time Jalen was benched for a half after an outburst to the head coach. Anyone remember the benching at Temple a couple of years ago? That benching cost UConn the game. This benching seemed to ignite a second half explosion.

Hurley’s postgame presser should be interesting as he usually pulls no punches.

I just got back from the game and I fricken' loved this:

No proof but... f#ck it ....it's a message board....Typical JA going through the motions like he'd rather be back in Storrs sleepin' off his party hangover from the night before...SMH. What's Hurley got to do lock him in a room 24 hours before a day game after a weekend night when he's home in Storrs? I knew the benching was coming and was telling anyone who would listen in the first half including one of the security guards. When you see JA laughing, talking to the other team and just going through the motions , you know he's trying to bluff his way through it, rather than work.

Sad thing ...is that the kid has NBA talent but can't be mentally tough enough on and off the court to play 30-something college games and the kid wants to play in the league ...WTF !!! Earth to Jalen...if some chump on a message board like me can see it, what do you think NBA scouts see ? .....Now in regards to all his team mates.... who came to play basketball .....A+

Jalen definitely was a no show in this game and 3-4 others this year and it should not be happening senior year in a home game against ECU!!!! I never saw a senior of his talent level have 4-5 total no show games, something isn’t right with his approach and attitude. However the team played great once Hurley got him out of there. Truthfully I would start Smith (or Gilbert if he is ready) and Vital at guard the next game and bring Jalen off the bench. I would also start Polley, Wilson and Carlton up front. I realize that it’s starting 2 3s at forward but better than starting 3 guards.

I also liked that, probably by necessity, when Hurley gave Uconn a height advantage and made life easier for Sid the Kid when he played him at his natural position ( the 3) with Poley at the 4.... Geez... miracles will never cease...Almost started to look like an old school Uconn line up. Well not really.... but at least back to the days in 2014 when they went 6-10, 6-9 and 6-8 ( Nolan, Daniels and Giffey) along the front line....

I hate that Jalen is getting this attention for his no show...but:

Big Husky shout out to Josh, T-Smith for handling the point with only 1 TO, CV for playing a perfect game as the glue guard/2 guard and Sid the Kid with his best CBB game yet...

Courant: Josh Carlton breaks out as UConn men roll past ECU, 76-52

p.s. TP balled out a little too...;)
