I remember hearing maybe about a year ago that Starkville was getting Uber. We are going up for the LSU game with my corndog family and staying a few miles from campus on Louisville St. in our RV. What’s the status of it now, and how reliable has it been?

Definitely have Uber. Uber and Lyft are both available.
Uber probably has more drivers but is a little more expensive than Lyft.

It’s a huge asset for Starkville. Especially for Alumni. $20 - $25 bucks can get you all around town for the night.

People that drive for Uber also drive for Lyft too. But, Lyft is usually a dollar or two cheaper and always giving discounts...both work quite well on busy weekends

ETA: Never attempt to get a cab...they are totally worthless

Uber has been under scrutiny for attempting to treat employees like contractors while witholding benefits, etc. Lyft doesn't do this. So, if you care about supporting a company that takes care of its own, choose Lyft and not Uber.

As I understand it, generally, they are contractors. They set their own schedule, they work when they want to and don't work when they don't want to. They're free to work for someone else (I assume this is the case). That said, Uber treats their drivers like ****. I always give a good tip.

Looking at working for them just to get some extra cash on the weekends and at nights and that’s kind of what I’ve understood. It’s actually nice because you can work around your schedule and if you have a main job. May be wrong but from the information I’ve seen it looks like that. Not sure I would do it full time though. Most drivers I’ve had like it. Only driving/delivery service I’ve heard complaints from drivers is door dash not giving them their full tips. That was supposed to stop though.

I thought the same thing. U sign up and drive. Didnt realize you were "employeed" by uber and expected to get benefits.

It’s a lot more complicated than setting your own schedule and it went to the CA Supreme Court. The kicker is not just benefits but also who is responsible for paying FICA taxes.

I think a fair number of them are driving part time to pay their car note. Some people who work at an airport just pick up a rider on their way into work and then again on their way home. Get paid for their commute plus get to deduct mileage.
