A friend asked me if I wanted to go to the MMA fights at Firelake Arena in Shawnee. I had previously gone to two MMA events a few years ago when Johny H and Jake Rosholt were just newcomers to the sport. I am not in any way against MMA but it really is not my cup of tea but heck, it was two miles from home and the friend had a VIP table with Beer and Pizza, need I say more?I was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face on the card. Tyler Shinn with a record of 7-3 was fighting an opponent with a 5-0 record at 145 pounds. Tyler won the match by a split decision and I was able to talk to him after the match and he indicated what was obvious in the match, he was very much smaller than his opponent. He will be fighting at this same arena in August and indicated he would be down a weight. So if anybody is interested I believe it will be August 2nd in Shawnee. It was carried by AXS TV so some may have seen it. I had a good time but there was a lot of blood in some fights and the featured heavy weight bout ended when the favorite Richard Odom hooked up some sort of arm throw at the end of the match which resulted in a obvious dislocated shoulder for Jared Vanderaa who was his opponent. Not for the squeamish.
