What does playing time in an RU uniform have to do with qualifications for being a captain?
Different times we're living in for sure. This will be more the norm now.
My hope is that eventually all 3 sides...players, schools and NCAA realize a solution is necessary.
What that solution looks like?
Yes it is. They showed leadership qualities. That's not acquired through time in an RU uniform.
Go look at just the RU MBB team captains for the past however many years. There’s a 99% chance this year’s captains have the least “average # of prior seasons at RU” than you will find for any captains in the last 40 years, if not longer.
Of course you can be on a team for X years and not show leadership or show leadership, but of course the captains typically have been there multiple years and are often upperclassmen.

JWill as a sole Captain would have worked for me. I'm not sure how Zack getting in Ace or Dylan's face would play out, lol.
There is zero doubt in my mind he is a leader and the players last year looked up to him. It was obvious to me.
Doesn’t change stating the obvious.
Making the extra pass, diving on the floor, encouraging teammates, and tieing shoes is all that we need.
Captains are leading by example and who has the ability to potentially earn the trust of messaging to the media or press. That may mean that you're more likely to hear these 2 voices in the press conference after back to back losses, instead of asking 5 freshman at maybe 18 to 19 years of age, or someone who has been accustomed to tough times or coaching.
I think Martini and Williams are what makes new CBB much better and different than the last decade......don't have a leader or grinder on your team for JMike, Derkack, Dylan Grant and Bryce Dortch to emulate?? No problem, go get a Martini from the portal that's willing to play wing, maybe a couple of minutes a game at center.....
Have 2 guards incoming that are talented scorers in Acuff and Dylan Harper and need a guard to do the dirty work of defending and rebounding?? Look to JWill to show what it means to defer shots, if necessary, for the greater good of the roster.
The culture of the program remains intact and shows in these choices.

I would think that Pikiel would want Zach and Jeremiah to have their backs then get on their faces. For all their talent Ace and Dylan are freshman and things aren’t always going to go right. The perspective they can get from the captains should be helpful. They are both tough players who play hard.
