Thank you for your service. Deep appreciation.1. I am alive because of what I wore that day.
2. Stephen Siller’s funeral was the saddest one I went to.
Nice job, MBB. Thank you.
I had nothing on, gear-wise since it was a such a beautiful day. I was part of the total recall order given to all of us to get to our firehouses. I was coming from a prep class for the upcoming lieutenants exam.Thank you for your service. Deep appreciation.
What was the equipment you attribute to having saved you?

So all I had on were sandals (that the real City guys would make fun of me for wearing - lol), shorts and a t-shirt.
I was at the Battery Tunnel (where Stephen Siller ran thru with his gear) and many of the Brooklyn companies were lined up to go thru the Tunnel into Manhattan.
Realizing I had nothing to wear since there is no extra stuff on the rigs I hitched a ride in a chiefs car with a guy I knew from a neighboring company, Ladder 3, via the Brooklyn Bridge. We got to our respective firehouses, got our gear and headed down there.
All the guys who went thru the Tunnel on the rigs I was contemplating getting on were killed in the collapse of the Towers.
If I had sneakers on instead of sandals I might have hopped on one rigs anyway.
Later in the day myself and some others ran the right way from WTC7 and made it.
One of the guys I was with all day who was in incredible shape his whole life got lymphoma.Thank you for sharing.
What a heart breaking day that was for so many (and for all of us at a distance too).
I was living in Allentown, PA. One of my neighbors lost a cousin in NYFD... So many lost and such waste of human life, office workers and heroes.
Thank you again.

They would have both known who my Dad was and depending on their time, probably worked with him too.Thank you, not only for doing what you do (did?), but for sharing the story. My FIL was a Captain in Jersey City, and knew so many involved. His brother was a JC FD Chief, and passed away recently (2 years?) attributed to spending several weeks at Ground Zero.

He is doing okay now but it was a little scary for a while.
