We can't take it for granted either. Monty's teams always play better when they play with a chip on their shoulder and that shouldn't stop. Even with Ahlers in the first couple of games, the ECU offense still wasn't very good. Really the only game they were good in was against USF and we know their defense is pretty bad, even with Thug Grier in the middle. 23 pts against Navy, 29 pts against GaState on 286 total yds (only 50 yds rushing). Ahlers threw the ball 50 times against GaState and had 3 picks. They've rushed for more in their other games but I seriously doubt they will be able to do so against us as our run defense has been really good for the most part. Most of Ahler's damage appears to be the dink and dunk crap. It only looks like he has avg. > 10 ypa in one game (17-29 for 222). His completion % isn't great (56% or so). Their season stats say Ahlers is avg. 6.1 ypa. They are avg. nearly 11.1 yards/catch meaning they throw a lot underneath and hope to for a lot of YAC. Fun note, former NFL WR Ricky Proehl's son is on the ECU team. Not predicting a score just comments:
- EZU (as they are known in NC circles) is better than USF.
- Young QB (second year local recruit, Dad does play by play for EZU), if he is back this week, is better than most realize. We must get pressure.
- We should be able to run the ball and set up the pass.
- Discipline (few penalties, assignment football, no turnovers, etc...) and we win.
- Lack of discipline and this game is much closer than any of us want and we will be holding our breath.
Bump because most thought this would be an easy win. There are no easy wins! Not predicting a score just comments:
