I attended the TU Sports Gala on Friday night, April 8, 2022. I did not know what to expect. The cost was only $25.00. It was well worth it. The admission price included light food and beer, wine and a couple special mixed drinks. The event was held on the floor of the Reynolds Center and it was packed. There was charity type gaming, auctions for nice prizes and plenty of fans and TU legends to talk to. I just had a couple of drinks and a little of the food (It was a Friday in Lent, I am Catholic and could not eat most of it). I had a wonderful time. I took photos and spoke to Tubby Smith, Pooh Williamson, Rick Dickson, Davis Brin, Carson Long, Jerry O, Dr Maureman, Don Tom, several assistant coaches for soccer, football etc. I was at the event for about 2 1/2 hours and had a great time. I ran into a number of fans who I have known for years.
Before I left, I told Rick Dickson that the event was great. I hope it was successful financially. I hope TU does something like this every year. One of my family Rules of Life I live by is "You have to spend money to make money." Even if TU broke even Friday night they bought a lot of good will and enthusiasm to the program.
