Impressed with that young man. Focused on the future. Interesting how many shots he takes and that he's gained 20 lbs of muscle.

Here is the full interview with Trey. He and his family were fully on board with the redshirt this year. Had a health issue early in the season and that set him back at bit. Now up to 233 pounds. He was there offensively, but defense was what led to the redshirt.

Another one of many super high quality young men on this team. He will be a Hawk next year.

Defense and getting sick and not being healthy for 45 days.

Just caught Trey on Hawk Talk. What a great kid! That was a fun interview to watch and listen to. Plenty of questions, answers, and laughter from all three. That kid is pretty knowledgeable around old school pro hoops too! He's a great addition to the team, willing to work hard, listen, and learn. Good stuff indeed. Wish him the best.

Hope it works out, but redshirting in this day and age seems silly. If his offense is really that good, we sure could have used it this year.
Depends on the individual

Trey is only 17 yrs old.
He's gained 20+ lbs of muscle in 9 months
He clearly was not physically mature enough for BIG.
The only way this would be a mistake is if he leaves after next year. He sounds like he wants to be here for 4 more years. He was sick for first 6 weeks of season anyway.

I wish Jirak had redshirted , for same reasons.

We are going to be more of a developmental program than a portal program.

If offense alone were the criteria for playing time under McCollum then Hausen would be playing "Stirtz-like" minutes. I think this redshirt decision was in the best interests of all involved.

I wish Jirak had been redshirted as well. He's played just 124 minutes in Iowa's 27 games (4.6 minute/game average)

“20 pounds of muscle in 9 months”. A rigorous weight training schedule and a very strict diet plus a few cycles of anabolic steroids … then yeah. Naturally, no.

Most people mean “good weight” when they say muscle. 20 lbs of good weight is certainly possible in that time frame. Agree with you that pure muscle only, probably not

What you eat, when you eat, how you work out....it's not impossible. Manyawu did that in less time after he got here.
