The usual suspects in the West..big 1aa small 1a...it dont matter at all...These 4 teams are the CREAM OF THE CROP...none of them are here by fluke!!! Dem SMC boys...live by the creed put up or shut up....and they put up!!! This is a classic final 4!!! Good luck to all. SMC folks said they had a down year!!! Yikes ...teams would really hate to see them in a good one! Also Mt.Airy and Mitchell are the epitome of tough as well. Gonna be some good football next week with some GREAT teams!!!! Whoever comes out of this true gauntlet final 4 definitely will have earned it with just these next two weeks alone!!!

But...all we hear over here is how east football is weak with no competition because Tarboro is always winning, yet out west we already know before the season that it'll be Murphy, Robbinsville, Mitchell, or Mount Airy. Yes, I know that 4 is greater than 1, but surely there are more than 4 teams out west that play football. How can these teams be the cream of the crop for being on top every year, but when it comes to Tarboro's success, it's due to the fact that the east doesn't have good competition?

Tarboro wins state championships also tho. It's not like they blow thru the east and gets thumped in the ship every year. There is no doubt that the east is weak, losing plymouth to consolidation, Holmes and WRH to 2a, and Eastern Randolph going west didn't help the fact any. But in the end it doesn't matter how the playoffs get changed by the NCHSAA, the usual suspects are there in the end.

True, but Eastern Randolph would’ve been 2A if they had been in the East. Compare their ‘realignment score’ of 517.51 to Ayden-Grifton (488.945), Goldsboro (447.463), and a few other 2A East schools. The whole system of classifying East and west separately didn’t help parity any in the East.

I was looking for the list of 1A and 2A “realignment scores“ the other day and could no longer find them anywhere on the NCHSAA site. Most all of the other numbers are there. Can you help me with that?

The difference is with no competition for Tarboro they get to play their underclassmen all season preparing them for when it’s their turn
In the west with parity that is there every year the subs seldom get into the game
That’s just one of the advantages that Tarboro has

And you helped solidify my point. I acknowledged that 4 is greater than 1, but it's not that much more. Just seems like people act as if the west has so much more competition from top to bottom. Is there anyone other than those same 4 over and over again? Using the logic of west supporters, it doesn't seem like competition out west is so much better than out east. If it's said that the east has 1 team and the rest are scrubs, then why isn't it said that the west has 4 teams and the rest are scrubs?

How did you come up with that theory? Lol Tarboro has a JV team. Underclassmen very rarely play on varsity unless there are lack of numbers. Todd Gurley didn’t even play varsity until his junior year.

Can’t wait. It’ll be an honor to just be able to line up against a team from the mighty deep west even though we will have no shot.
I know man judging by all the comments I see on here we have no shot against the mighty West. But coming from this viking fan I like our chances we are peaking at the right time

You know if you're going to hate on tarboro at least have some facts first. Tarboro has a JV team underclassmen rarely start unless our numbers are severely low. Todd Gurley didn't even start as a sophomore.

Mountain Heritage had a down year this year and it was expected, but teams better look out the next few years. They will definitely be in the mix in the west.

I think the Mitchell conference just switched to it this year. Maybe one of them will chime in on how it went. Smc been doing it ever since I came around.
We did because of numbers. Only Mitchell and Mt. Heritage could field a true JV team of 9th and 10th graders.

Curious which schools have middle school concept ( grades 6-8) versus junior high (grades 7-9).
