Stanford or Rutgers? A wise student athlete would go with Rutgers, Stanford is way overrated and California is an absolute mess, rather be in Jersey. The only way you might chose Stanford is if academics was your only consideration, however, for a top football athletic prospect it really is a no-brainer, the B1G dwarfs the PAC, and the opportunity to play for Greg Schiano pretty much dwarfs all of the other B1G program coaches. The correct choice in this case is clearly Rutgers, unarguable.

If you had a shot to go to Stanford, you’d take it too. That’s one of the best Us in the planet...that yes should be timed in nano seconds.
Years ago, I worked with a girl who had a very smart brother. Non-athlete Offered a full scholarship at Stanford. Went out there and didn’t like the people or the area. Decided to go to Virginia Tech on a full ride. As far as I know he was happy there. Everyone is different. My brother went to a school with 1,200 students and one of my nephews goes to a school with almost 50,000 . I think schools like UCF and Texas A &M are around 70,000. To each his own.

Hope he goes to Rutgers but David Shaw (and his players getting drafted) is not chopped liver.

I don't follow recruiting as deeply as most here but I've noticed Stanford has often started off slowly then makes big strides as you get closer to NSD. They appear to be a threat to most programs whether they offer early or late.

Dude, we’re all fanatics here don’t get me wrong. And I think we once again have a coach that truly cares for his players and I truly believe in Schiano so much. But dude, going to beautiful Northern California over Jersey is not a hard thing to understand, and David Shaw has taken that team a lot farther than Harbaugh did in my opinion.

+1

No, he's not being recruited at RU by an Ash or Flood. But David Shaw is no Ash or Flood as well.

The stanford aint so great take is akin to those who advocated for a north carolina bowl over the phoenix Opportunity. Always gonna have some myopia and small worldism here. But really hard to say no to that offer if bona fide even as much as scarlet blood pulses and things certainly going in the right direction here.

This is the best Rutgers can hope for--recruits choose to stay closer to home and like the vibe of the New Jersey area and proximity to NYC over other options. We are a Rutgers family to the core, and we are thrilled that our son chose Rutgers and stayed close to home, especially after the pandemic. Stanford was not an option for our son, but the Stanford campus is hands down the most beautiful college campuses we visited, with top 5 academics and top flight athletics, including football. If he had been accepted, he likely would have chosen Stanford over Rutgers. For elite student athletes, the decision is the same--which place feels right to the prospective student athlete. Nobody should fault a recruit for making such a personal decision.

Nobody understands nothing. Zero. It's obvious. Colleges are more profitable and now its less easy. Comparisons happen; Rutgers isn't Stanford. Admission selections happen, kids. You lose especially facing lesser options over decisions

Congrats to this young man. His hard work on the field and in the Classroom is paying off. He’ll make the best choice for himself. Hope to see him on Saturdays at RU.

All the future casts that matter (Rivals writers) have him to Stanford so far. One of those predictions is from a TKR writer.

RU has a commit with a similar skill set to this kid already. So all is not lost here.

I wouldn’t criticize a kid if he chooses Stanford because he thinks that’s the best school/program for him .

Kids are gonna go where they feel most comfortable and also where they think they will be given the opportunity to succeed on the field and afterwards.

Obviously a Stanford degree is more prestigious than one from RU, but that's not the only factor that leads to a decision

Pretty motley crew those Stanford Football alums.
Not sure these guys can be of any help.

Kidding aside I'd like to have this kid.

Seriously not going waste a moment worrying about somebody who goes to the Tree Farm over the Banks. He'll, and we'll, be fine either way.

You know what Rutgers has that Stanford doesn't?

Schiano.

Case closed.

The kids who want to be a part of this will stay. Unlike the Flood and Ash eras, that's a pretty damn reassuring thought.

But better at this time than what David Shaw has done?

David Shaw 2011-19: 86-34/58-22. 5-3 in bowls. 2-1 in the Rose Bowl. Four top 10 rankings and six top 20 rankings at end of season. Five first place finishes in division. Three conference titles. However, Stanford went 4-8/3-6 last year.

Loathe Cal?

Why would that be?

They are run by sick folks.

A student was recently gunned down and murdered off campus.

The chancellor sent out a press release saying something to the effect of "while we understand some of you will mourn the loss of Seth Smith, please keep in mind that others are grieving for George Floyd ".

Absolutely callous and disgusting statement.

It's so sad how places of supposed higher learning are ran by demented peeps

Unfortunately Douglass '66. Inappropriate statement that seems to devalue Smith's life.

Shaw is a good coach, but Stanford makes it difficult for him to go after a lot of recruits. Even when Shaw targets kids who he thinks should get in, Stanford rejects them. I'm hoping Stanford thinks too highly of itself, and admins pass on Barrow.

Rufiorlife Yours was possibly the most abysmally misguided post of all time. Palo Alto California is a universe ahead of Newscataway in every regard.

My daughter (non athlete) wanted to be involved in fashion merchandising and attended Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan, If you want to get involved in the fashion industry you couldn't have a better choice. She went there for two years and loved living in the city but there were a lot of aspects of college life she was missing. We went to every RU football game from about 2004 until 2010 and she really missed watching college football. Also there really was no campus. The other kids who go there are also important. Her remarks to me about the FIT kids were that all the girls thought that they would be America's Next Top Model and she wanted to go to a school where at least a couple of the guys were straight. She ended up transferring to Kentucky for her last two years and is successful in merchandising in Atlanta now.
There are so many aspects that kids have to consider when choosing a school. I hope this kid goes with us but he and his family need to choose the best fit for him. I think GS can show him that Rutgers is that fit (even though he never won the Big East).
