On what Rutgers head coach Eddie Jordan needs to do to turn program around: “Well from my vantage point he’s got to stay healthy. He’s had those bigs out. And then when you’re at this point and you’ve had all those injuries and then your confidence goes, and then you suspend a guy for four games. How valuable is that kid? I thought he was one of the best freshmen in the league. So I think they’ve got to do what we did, do what everybody did, you’ve got to upgrade your facilities. You’ve got to keep working on that. But he’s got to stay healthy. It’s a shame. I thought they would be a better team this year and then I think they lost three guys early. It’s hard to evaluate when you’re losing guys for the year or for a long period of time.

“They run some really good stuff. Offensively they’re hard to guard. He is I think a very good coach. I thought they got tired in the second half when we got out running game going, but I really think Eddie can turn this thing around. I just think he’s got to get a break and get healthy first and then add another player or two second that would really help them

It's like Jeb Bush campaign. You keep a unified front in public but you know it's all over but the crying

Ever notice how the Big Ten coaches and announcers have the same talking points? We're part of the Big Ten brand and they can't rip us. A more accurate voice would be found by outsiders, not invested in Big Ten

But Izzo was right when he said we need facilities.

What he can't say but I can is that Jordan's not the guy to be HC when we build them.

I think it was more than coachspeak. Izzo went on for longer than he had to when asked about Jordan; it goes beyond professional courtesy.

Just my opinion though.

I think the use of impartial was a solid choice in the title. Because coaches always speak poorly of their colleagues.

I'm surprised Izzo didn't say something like "if I ever coached a team that gave up 33 three pointers in two games I'd quit the business."

It also has great meaning. When Hobb announces Jordan will return, he might say I was going to fire Eddie, but when Izzo said all those nice things I changed my mind.

Some of this crap reminds me of what other coaches would say about Terry Shea back in the day.
But at the end of the day the shortcomings are just so obvious.

Wow, winning coach praises loser. Stop the presses! "Impartial comments"? Just laughable that the enablers use an opposing (you know, winning) coach's presser to suggest that Jordan has earned a fourth year.

Didn't some of the posters here get all tingly last year because Izzo said something nice about Mike Williams?

Izzo, is like Coach K, in his post-games. They're both experienced as winners and they pretty much use the same script for the post game -- praise the opponent's effort and mention 1 or 2 kids by name, praise the opponent's coach, point out of few things he was happy about with his kids and then mention a few things he needs to work on before the next game.

Go back and find the tape of a presser where a B1G coach had anything bad to say about HC Kyle Flood after a rout. Guess RU made a mistake firing a guy that Urban said nice-nice about.

Crean also said good things earlier in year. Izzo and Crean have some class. he is right on the money about Sanders.

Yeah, where are the comments about how hard his kids needed to work to score against that hard-working Rutgers defense?

Look, RU shot 67% for a half ... and was down 2. That says it all. The kids couldn't have played any better on O for 20 minutes and they were still losing. And like the rest of us, I'm sure that Izzo knew that RU couldn't shoot like that in the second half and order would return to the universe. The constant was the Rutgers lack of defense. Why would any B1G coach want Hobbs to hire a new coach?

That said, I really hope that RU can pull out a win against Minnesota. None of these kids deserve to be stuck with the label of being on the 0-for and worst Rutgers team - e-vuh. Lewis deserves to get a win.

Lewis deserves it, especially the people who called him soft. Playing with a cyst near ankle for crying out loud. And Diallo needs to play more for next year.

Don't remember that. All I remember about that game is disgrace to the uniform by Tim Welsh.

I think it's clear that Eddie Jordan can coach offense. And I think he's a great guy. But on the other hand, he has been unable to teach these kids to defend and rebound. So he could be a very capable assistant but he's not a program builder and not a head coach.

One damning aspect: we have all of our guards and we don't guard the 3 point line. They are not held accountable. Eddie saw "contested 3's" taken by Forbes about half the time. I don't recall any.

Coaches support coaches

For some reason the moderator, an intelligent guy, is either unwilling or unable to see that. This constant digging in of the heels to support the status quo is just flat-out silly at this point.

Can knock Izzo for coach speak all we want but what did he say that was inaccurate?

To me EJ biggest flaw has been recruiting minus Sanders and next year als seems to also be a crap shoot. That said has our administration supported the program with facilities or investment? No which basically has him recruiting with one hand behind his back.

For the play on the court how do we expect anything with freeman, doorson and diallo all out? Add to that Lewis playing though pain. That leaves us with essentially small forwards playing against other teams bigs. I don't care if you have tom Brady but take Gronk and some linemen out and he isn't the same Tom Brady.

Hobbs needs to evaluate at the end of the year but needs to look at everything from wins and losses to the hand we were dealt.

They've allowed over 30 made threes in two games.

when you have two seperate losing streaks of 17 and 15 that rank 1st and 3rd in all time Rutgers history, there is nothing more to look at. The losing stench has to be removed. Its just too much losing and the program has accepted the attitude that losing is okay. Change is mandatory to start fixing that

Go back and watch the Central Arkansas and St Johns games. Only Doorson is missing.

B1G opponents have shot 41.7% from the 3 against RU this season. Defend much?

Interview Izzo and Crean after a loss and they aren't happy campers.Playing Rutgers is nothing more than glorified scrimmages because Rutgers lacks the talent to play/win a 40 minute game. The number of 20 plus point losses is staggering .

You mean the 2nd and 3rd game of the year with a freshman running the point, Diallo playing in his 2nd and 3rd game ever and Freeman still transitioning from JUCO?

St Johns was younger and Central Arkansas as well one of the worst teams in D1 yet it came down to a last second missed 3 by them.

so many red flags that injuries don't account for and again simply too much losing. This fan base will be demoralized if Eddie comes back

These teams don't like playing Rutgers at the end of the year because it doesn't get them ready for post season.

Coaches always support coaches, but you know at halftime Izzo was ripping his team new a-hole berating them, how could this even be close. And then they came out and it two minutes it was a blowout.

A coach will never speak poorly of another in a public situation, because they want the same courtesy. But I'm sure they had a laugh on the plane home.

We are in a dark and tangled forest, but feel free to sit there and focus on this nice shiny tree Tom Izzo has provided.

AT the end of the season, Jordan will be evaluated -- mostly on his won/lost record, but there are other factors that play in (overall talent level, kids graduating, off the field drama, representing the university, where he is in his contract, etc.). We all know that the won/lost record will factor very heavily, and that his situation is different now than it was in November before Julie got sacked.

The nice shiny tree is a discussion point in an otherwise dismal season.

Good point...

The 30+ game conference losing streak, school record for consecutive losses, almost completely un-ranked incoming (and unsigned) recruiting class, and suspension of our two best players aside, I sure do hope that Hobbs takes some time to ruminate on some positive comments from an opposing coach whose team just administered a 30-point loss.

We all know Izzo doesn't know anything and the wannabe D1 coaches on this board know more than he does. Izzo probably just feels sorry for Coach Jordan and he wants to Rutgers to stay where they are because that's what is best for the B1G conference.
