Public school admin here. Devious licks got us pretty bad last month. We spent thousands replacing soap dispensers, faucets, and sinks this last month.

I hope a kid smacks a staff member on the butt. That's about the easiest way to get to alternative school and out of my building.

On a side note, if you have kids, get rid of tik tok and talk to them about this crap. The amount of influence other kids have on your child is more than you think. Talk to them about it and open the door for conversation. These behaviors that are coming from tik tok and other social media spheres of influence are extremely concerning.

I talked to both of mine about this devious licks **** last month. On top of the "if I ever catch you" - threats I asked them both how it would feel not to get to go to college because they have felony malicious mischief on their record. Because if your dumbass steals a commercial toilet from a school it would be pretty easy to see the total cost to repair being > $1,000.

I have an 11 year thats just begs and begs to get on there. its a firm no. He downloaded it anyways and he lost his phone for 3 months. He hates us at times, but that **** is ridiculous.

The Iowa Teacher's Union sent out a email blast yesterday saying anyone who slaps a teacher should be charged with assault.

This is example 3,948 why social media is 17ing terrible and we as a society are overall worse for it, in spite of the known benefits.

TikTok isn't bad. No worse than Twitter or Facebook or whatever. It's just a vehicle. There's lots of good content on there as well.

But yes, people should talk to their kids and raise them not to do stupid stuff no matter where they see it.

It's worse than facebook because Facebook is for old people. Lots of kids can post and do terrible **** on Tiktok that they can't do on facebook because their parents at least somewhat understand facebook but don't know anything about tiktok except that it exists.

I think it's worse than twitter just because the interface is better. Twitter mostly "rewards" people for snarky comments and memes. Tik Tok rewards people for video evidence of terrible ****.

I'm an AP at a middle school. Tik Tok is bad for those kids because they aren't exactly going around finding wholesome content to consume.

FB and Twitter, while similar in that they are social media platforms, have much more adult intrusion and familiarity. Far fewer parents are familiar with tik tok because it wasn't around when they were kids or young adults.

But social media is killing our youth right now. It's a bastion for bullying, fabricating of the truth, and consuming content that's absolutely not enriching or meaningful in any way, shape, or form.

And it's not get better. It's getting worse. I can't even get my actual job done because all I do is deal with bullying, vandalism, and discipline. I implore everyone to be heavily involved in what your kid does, their academics, and trying to stay up to date on what's going on with social media and bullying.

As a father of 3, about to be 4, and an AP in a fairly good city in AL, I'm just telling you it's getting worse and that a lot of parents don't know the half of how much all of these external factors are influencing kids inside of a school building.

Yep, and precisely why the owners/creators of social media platforms do not allow their kids to participate in social media. If you haven't seen the documentary, The Social Dilemma (Netflix), I strongly recommend you do, particularly if you have kids.

There's some good stuff on TikTok, but it's an addictive platform.

The instant dopamine hit of the infinite scroll is something to keep in mind. You can lose hours mindlessly scrolling through and watching short videos before you realize it.

I understand your perspective and appreciate it. Thanks for what you do to serve the kids and families of your school district. And I 100% agree with what you said above.

And I get why you hate TikTok. People (not just kids) who are more easily influenced are making very poor decisions from what they're watching. Heck, idiots were eating Tide Pods 2-3 years ago because of social media's influence.
