We only have 3 tight ends who have seen the field at the college level. Fidone and Boerk are gone. I can see a lot of 4 WR sets this upcoming season, but maybe I'm wrong. Nelson seems like he will be limited this season or will not play, mostly was going to be a slot WR anyways. I wonder if they will bring Bonner into a TE role - has similar body as Niles Paul did.

Haarberg - former QB (28 career rec yards)
Lindemeyer - walk-on (50 career rec yards)
Markway - surgery out of spring (16 career rec yards) did not play last year

Been hearing that Nelson may miss the 2025 season with his hip surgery..

Boerkircher is still on the roster isn't he? He was arguably our best tight end last year........ Crap, just remember he transferred

I think it was a congenital thing where he would have had to have it fixed no matter where he went.

I just read a story questioning if Nelson will play in '25 because of his hip surgery. I'd love to see him play, but only if he's 100%.

With Nelson likely to miss the season our tight end room just got a lot more questionable. Hopefully Haarberg can emerge but I have never been a fan of his athleticism, despite what the hype says. But I hope he surprises me because we really need him to.

this has been the case all offseason, even accounting for WR roster movement

we will be counting heavily on guys who've either never taken a D1 snap or have played limited minutes at the TE, WR and RB positions

just now two ways around it. starters will go down in camp and during the season. we stayed remarkably healthy last year and that just can't be counted on statistically speaking.

The three guys listed by OP are a good group. I'm excited about the potential for each. I expect to see a spring/summer transfer also. Lindenmeyer looks like he might be the best we've had in awhile.

Don’t worry!!! we have the highest paid TE coach in the country. He will figure it out. He coached at Temple during the dynasty of mighty Owls dominance of college football

TE is where HH should have been playing all along and I think he will do well there.
LL played well from what I saw. Not a downgrade from Boerk imo.
MM is pretty much an unknown commodity at this point due to injury, but he was highly regarded out of HS anyway.

I’m sure our OC will be able to game plan around them but yeah, we need more depth.

RB room is even worse but don’t worry, we have Pat Stewart now. He will fix it. He was on the Temple coaching staff when the Owls dominated college football. That Staff Right up there with the 95 browns staff and 92 Packers.

And the best debate in college football. 2001 Miami Hurricanes, 1995 Nebraska, 2015 Temple Owls!!! That’s a tuff choice

This is a NIL era concern. And holy cow does our Husker media go on and on about it. It's as if those clowns don't realize that every player has to take their first snap at some point. There is little difference between a two year returning starter who is in no way, shape or form an NFL prospect, and a younger three or four star recruit who has been in the program for less time. Both guys are somewhere right in the middle of the bell curve.

What more do you need to see? He lacks a little fluidity but otherwise is a great athlete. 6'5, multiple long TD runs two years ago, can easily dunk it, not afraid to lower his shoulder. He should be just fine

Lindenmeyer is perhaps a bit underpowered athletically, but he plays with a high degree of enthusiasm and is a very eager blocker. The staff see Nelson as a potential pro and are not going to jeopardize his trajectory. Haarberg will spend the spring getting more familiar with the position and young guys like Flynt and Ingerwerson will get enhanced reps. The fall is looking very much like a Lindenmeyer/Haarberg affair at TE.

I think HH is motivated to make the league - he’s going to work his *** off - hopefully he can catch up. I think the whole state will be rooting for him.

I have faith DH will utilize the TE correctly. HH can stretch the field. And get to the sticks and be a possession TE to move the sticks. Stop these freaking te screens behind the line of scrimmage.

Oh, I don’t know. Things like
1. Can he block big, athletic defensive linemen?
2. Can he catch the ball in traffic?
3. Can he run accurate routes and be physical with contested passes?
4. Can he break tackles and get yards after contact or will he drop like a stone at first contact and then fumble? You know, like he did when he was pretending to be a QB.
5. You said it yourself. He lacks fluidity. Good Tight ends have just that. He runs like he has a rod shoved up his spine. He is fast in a straight line. Nothing else. But he can dunk a basketball. Perhaps Hoiberg can use him

We found a hater...to say he isn't athletic is wild. Will he be a good tight end? Idk yet, but to say he lacks athleticism is dumb statement.

I don’t see those words in Pennsy’s post

I also think it’s pretty convenient to just assume HH will produce at a high level in his first year playing a very demanding position

This is where I am. He’s going against guys who have likely been playing TE for 3-6 years at competitive levels, he’s year 1. That is a lot of catching up to do, to learn how to block (HH has probably never had to do that in his life) against big time B1G ends. Can he catch going over the middle knowing someone is lining up to lay him out as soon as it touches his fingers?

Again, I’m confident HH is putting in the work and pushing hard to catch up so it won’t be a work ethic issue. By this point in a TE career there is no thinking all the reps are natural - HH won’t have that yet. Rooting for the young man and will be pleasantly surprised if he can get there in a single offseason.

Where did I say he isn’t athletic? He has speed, size, and a good vertical jumping ability. I just don’t think his particular athletic skills are necessarily going to translate into being a good TE. As I said, he does have good straight line running speed. But his running posture is a bit stiff, very upright with a center of gravity that makes him easy to bring down. He also in the past has fumbled too much when he played QB.
I don’t hate the guy at all. I am just one poster who thinks he is way overhyped.

It’s a tough spot for HH but he’s bailed out both Rhule and Satt before when they put the program behind the 8-ball

Looking forward to seeing him out there.

Haarberg, Lindenmeyer, and Ingwerson are.all going to be solid TEs for us. People always forget about Ingwerson and Flynt. Ingwerson drew some praise last fall from the staff as I guy who was showing up in practice.

I think Ingwerson could be a big surprise and will help the blow with Nelson seating out the 25 season repairing his hip.

I think it was Sports Nightly a few weeks ago that mentioned it was a possibility. That surgery absolutely requires a lengthy rehab. If he comes back too soon he could jeopardize his future.
