I saw the Union Jack on the Fiji flag and got curious. In 2015 they started the process of changing it. In 2016 they abandoned the change for one reason.

However, on 17 August 2016, Bainimarama publicly announced that the government was abandoning plans to change the flag. He read out a statement saying: "While I remain convinced personally that we need to replace some of the flag’s colonial symbols with a genuinely indigenous expression of our present and our future, it has been apparent to the Government since February that the flag should not be changed for the foreseeable future".[SUP][10][/SUP] The flag's popularity had been boosted by the country winning its first ever Olympic gold medal under its banner in the 2016 Summer Olympics. The US women's soccer team is the worst of the worst. A bunch of entitled brats who can't see their hands in front of their faces. It’s a pretty interesting read about how the two sides valued different things. But then it makes you even more mad about how they tried to twist it later on.

Especially the World Cup stuff because there is basically 0% chance of the men winning a World Cup. They could put $10m per player incentive in there and it wouldn’t matter

It really is. I actively cheer for every American team and athlete without caring what their politics are. I don't personally agree with Republicans/Trump on much of anything, but I don't care that many of our athletes do, and I still want them to win anyway - I'm a patriotic American first and a liberal/Democrat second. It's kinda unbelievable how Republicans used to generally agree with that sentiment (case in point, nobody was mass cheering against our athletes in 2016, despite the politics not having changed) and suddenly don't anymore.
