Three Things Needed At Albemarle......

Don't need your input Kevin... First we badly need a new principal. This guy has been a total flop..Second. We need to get the talent walking the halls out for football. Several kids on the basketball team would have made a huge difference on the football field. Third the WEIGHT ROOM is a MUST. If we can somehow get these three things accomplished we might can be a 500 team next season.

There won't be any change in the next two or three years at least. We have to see what those freshman and sophomores can bring to the table. By that time, D2 kids will start moving in and some stability will present.

The kids playing basketball would've help tremendously, but Albemarle Football doesn't look appealing right now, so for them not playing is totally understandable. They have fan support to where Albemarle Football has little.

As far as the principal goes, haven't heard anything good about him nor have I heard anything bad about him. But I can tell you that the schools in Albemarle are not that great. A principal needs strong teachers, when you have teachers that's 23 years old teaching at the high school level is a recipe for failure. Neither the teacher nor the students are mature enough, and the brain doesn't fully develop until 25 anyway.

The Football program has hit rock bottom, with blowout loses to South Stanly, Chatham, North Moore and to only win by 2 touchdowns against South Davidson should tell you a lot about what's going on..

There should be no excuses next year though...they should win at least 5 games with the team they are returning. If Mason can't muster 5 wins, then I don't know what to tell you.

You forgot number 4.Play south davidson 5 times :)

Hey......now that's an idea. If we could manage for that to happen then we could possibly be 3-2 after playing 5. :p:D No idea where we'll get the other 2

I agree with you Buddy 100%. I have talked to some present and former teachers at Albemarle and each one told me he was weak in the discipline department and was not a strong supporter of the athletic dept. We also need the head coach to stay more than one year and provide some stability to the program.

Get the Pride back. Remember what the Program once was. Be mean again. Hit Somebody. Stick Your nose in Somebody's face after a good play. Manners don't make You Tough

Didn't get to see any games in person this year so had to rely on stats and secondhand info from the boards. But it seemed to me that (1) the team did not improve during the season; or (2) we are so far behind in talent and conditioning that there was improvement but it was impossible to detect. Either way, it's a problem.

Not much fans can do except buckle in and hope for better days. As others have said, keeping the coaching situation stable is the first step. Really hoping this staff has what it takes to turn the program around so we aren't right back to square one in another couple of years.

I watched a few games. 1. The coach kept the players he had and finished the season. SD didn't. 2. The coach and principal advertised for assistant positions already. 3. The stability at AD is more important than we usually think. Pride in the program will get players out. 4. Feeder systems matter. I watched the middle school twice. 5. Numbers.... ALL promoted to the ninth grade are eligible to play. AHS could have great numbers next year and beyond
..if the players and coaches stay on top of job one...being a good student. Yoder, we will see a better club next year. .500 is a reasonable goal. I made this on my years St FHS. 2-8, 6-4, then 8-3. I also offer SP 2 wins to ten as a similar group stuck it out and played together for four years.

You can't go on just wins and losses this past season because you basically had a JV team with the majority of the players 9th graders playing a varsity schedule. I know when I played there was no way I could compete with varsity competition as a freshman. Although when I played we were playing against stronger competition in the old 3A South Piedmont Conference but very few 9th graders can compete with 11th and 12th graders no matter what class it is. Keep the head coach and his staff together and provide some stability and get an offense to run that is run starting with the youth program that is basically the same as the varsity offense.

I went to school with freshmen that could compete at the varisty level at Albemarle. Matter of fact, our 2010 JV team marched down the field on Monroe and scored....

I am not sure anyone wants my opinion but here goes. Our kids are scared to death of losing again in 2017. This type of season couldn't have came at a worse time. We don't have the support from the top down to create another great program. The county wants us to close, so there will be no help from the higher powers either. Most wont come out and Harrison transfers to NSHS. We are stuck with a slightly better JV team than last year playing a varsity schedule.

Harrison is not transferring to NS your nuts.
New BOE atleast the ones I have spoken with wang AHS to remain open due to its impact on the community.

Before you make statements on people transferring you should probably talk to the parents or kids just saying.

My input on the future at Albemarle. If Mason stays and can sell the kids on the future of Albemarle Football Then we stand a chance. If he goes it's over...
Side note. Had a nice chat on facebook with Harri Gaster. Jack's widow. Great lady . Lives in Sanford with her sister.. She loved the NCC. Her and Jack's 2 boys are going well. Travis is HC at Princeston and Guy is in public relations at NC State. She said Travis is just like Jack..We were so lucky to have him come to Albemarle.....The rest is History......

In other new, Baxter's Morris's ex-wife Beth passed away this morning.. Nice lady. We became good friend when Baxter was here as Jack's assistant at Albemarle. Baxter and Jack complemented each other. They had great success working as a team...RIP Beth..

Praying for Baxter and the Family. I had a lot of respect for Jack and Baxter. I have never seen a Team ran as well as those Teams. Jack and Baxter built a Program that They fit into. Do You remember that Year when the City gave awards to Jack Gaster and Roger Snyder. The Football Team came out on the Field to congratulate Jack and Roger

We're still singing this tune?

Like I said before, I'm gonna ride with Mason until otherwise. He started with 30+ kids and ended with 30+ kids 90% of them Freshmen and Sophomores.

Make no mistake about it. Albemarle will not "I repeat" will not be that good next year either. Best thing is to due away with a J.V. squad next year and get about 50+ bodies on Varsity and go from there. That's what I'd do.

Go Dogs.

Sway in regards to Coach mason I agree. You have to give him a chance to build his culture. I personally think he will be fine.

In regards to next year I hear we have good numbers coming up but I believe the success of next year obviously depends on how many return, and I believe it's how many of the students you get out that didn't play last year that have played in the past and can help. The athletes are there, I'm going to hold off until we see how many of those play. The ones I speak of would be difference makers. I have heard of 3 that are planning on coming out next years of right now and a possible 4th. You know how that goes we will see when it's time how many actually show.

I would expect us to be alittle better than this year but I think we are still another season away.

It's just mind boggling on how kids don't wanna play for Albemarle when there are clear athletes in the hallways. I have never seen us like this. I graduated in 2002 and I believe 99% of the athletic bodies at Albemarle played football and ran track.

Who killed our spirit....? crazy.

I think it was a mix honestly but the bodies are coming out. We haven't had wrestling for the past two years and this year we have 16 wrestling filling 12 classes from talking to the wrestling coach he was very happy with that. Your right though it's crazy but everything points to it coming back that's why I am holding off. The numbers in basketball were really good we have 13 on varsity and I think 15 on jv after cuts for the guys.

So I think the numbers for football will go up as well for next year. If those athletes come out and buy in to mason and we retain numbers plus what comes in from the middle school and transfers you never know what we will look like next year it could be a complete flip from this year. I honestly expect us to be better but I still think it will be another season and then you will have this core more mature working harder and the program moving the right direction

Buddy, thanks for the great updates. Very sorry to hear about Beth Morris passing. Will have to share that news with my mom, who knew Beth well and always had nice things to say about her. Great to hear about Mrs. Gaster and Travis and Guy. I had always wondered whether Mrs. Gaster stayed in town after Jack passed away. Good to know her whereabouts and that she is doing well.

Would be surprised if AHS wins many more games next year than this year. Even if there are more kids out (let's hope so) there's still a lot of ground to make up. Even assuming the staff stays long-term, I think we are going to struggle for a while.

There is no uncertainty for the schools future and even say so is false and should be stopped as rumors have really hurt scheduling etc. Having spoke to all new BOE members they all have an understanding and respect for AHS in the community and believe they should remain open.

I will agree that it will take some time. The remaining portion of your post is right on with the exception there are a few of game changing athletes in the high school right now if Mason can motivate them to come out it would have a positive impact. That seems to be the ? Is how many of those kids that have played previously come out. Just from what I heard and projecting numbers coming in along with what we have currently I would expect around 40-45 kids for football next year. I may be off but that seems like it's possible still will take time as you stated previously though.

I would say in addition right now athletics wide we are very very young looking at fall and winter sports. Our freshman and sophomore classes are very athletic and very talented that's why my thinking is another season before we see any drastic improvement.

I don't remember ever seeing Albemarle athletes so young....

I hope the kids are lifting weights as we speak right now. I see a couple of kids at the YMCA, not sure if they're ours or not, but if they are, they got a long ways to go!

I hope Mason is feeding those boys protein shakes 3 times a day! It will show next year if they've been on a 4 week regiment (3 weeks of lifting and 1 week off to heal), West Montgomery gon hit them right in the Jaw again if they don't get it together.

I'm not sure if AHS has been this young in athletics it's crazy. And I agree 100% if you don't put in the work you can't be successful.

Isn't that 1 more game than you attended this year? Speaking of...

I'm sure they could also use fans that actually go and watch/financially support them BEFORE they criticize.

Saw in the SNAP that Melvin Poole was elected as The School Board Chairman in their first meeting and they passed a motion for the superintendent to halt any future considerations of plan A and B but Poole wanted to look to amend the redistricting of the Endy attendance zones. I don't think Melvin Poole has ever voted for anything to help and support Albemarle and I don't see him changing his views on Albemarle now.

Y'all don't remember Melvin speaking out to keep Alb high open. Even went to NAACP rally. He just don't believe Endy should be in Albemarle district.

Poole's main objective is to protect the West Stanly district (elementary, middle, and high school). Albemarle closing is not his concern as long as it is not a negative to West.

Back to the Football Program. I was watching an Albemarle game from just a few years ago against West Stanly. It was one of the the two years that We had to start against Davidson Day. Albemarle still had plenty of Talent and Doug Talbert was Head Coach. I still don't understand the drop off in how People feel about the loss in Talent.

He may protect the West district ( they may allow kids who were already at West before the redistricting to return if they desire), but he is no friend to athletics for any county school that truly wants to be competitive. I foresee some changes that will make things unappealing for athletics in the county.
